Went to the dyno with the FD

After planning it for months I finally went to the dyno with my FD.
I wasn't after the highest possible hp but I wanted to ensure that the mixture was ok. I have been installing a lot of mods myself over the last year and I don't want to risk my new engine.
The mods are:

Petit Racing downpipe
Trust Cat back
Intake HKS (twin mushrooms)
HKS EVC electronic boost controller
HKS F-con version V Fuel/Ignition piggy back

I bought all of this second hand from the US, Japan and the UK (mainly Ebay). The total spent was about 1200 Euro.

I went to Kempower (http://www.kempower.be/) in Belgium. I was a little afraid because they are known as BMW/Porsche specialist but when I arrived I found a Turbo II and another FD so I felt more confident. The guys were very professional and the price was ok (50 Euro/Hour).

I asked for Lambda datalogging so they welded another O2 bung on my downpipe and installed a Bosch Lambda meter.
They also spliced in wires for MAP Sensor, Knock sensor (HKS Knock Amplifier) and Rpm.

They accidently cut the wire for the MAP Sensor so the car didn't do much more than backfiring and did not make boost. They tested all the wires of my F-Con harness, found the problem, and soldered all my previously made (unprofessional) connections.
Troubleshooting, welding & soldering wasn't charged separately (within the 50 Euro/Hour)

We made the first run with only the stock ECU while the F-con was out. My EVC was not working (plugged into the F-con harness) so the boost was limited to about 8-9psi. The result was 257hp/318Nm.

After that the F-con went back in and boost was set at 11psi.

The result here...

After that we did a high boost run at 0.93 bar (about 13.5 psi)
The lambda values were below 0.8 (about 11.8 AFR) for the high boost/high rpm but on the primary turbo it was just a little bit over 0.8 (between 2500 and 4500rpm) so we dialed a little more fuel with the F-con in this area.

I expected about 300hp and I am quite pleased with the 323hp.

Hm nice.
You needn't worry about Jan (Kempower). He's one of the more capable tuners you'll ever come accross. He's now official HKS dealer and in the past has in the past done development work for Motec Australia.
Quite a pleasant chap, but once he starts talking there's no stopping him for a couple hours.

You got to be happy with those numbers on your first dyno!
I remember you got some mixed info from the 3rd gen forum on your F-con (hks). Looks like it work just fine.

Comparing your HP at .8 bar and mine.79. Our hp is almost 100% the same. My torque is a bit higher after 3000 rpm's but your using a stock main cat.

Do you know what your Inj. duty % was during both runs? After seeing your second run at .95.....I am really mad I didn't get a chance to try it at the bar before winter.

Again, congratulations on your dyno results

Oliver

Thanks for the comment !

I am thinking of replacing the main cat with a midpipe
too but I am afraid it will be too loud. It's already too loud to take the wife with me :-)

I have no idea about the duty cycle of the injectors. The duty cycle is shown on the display of my EVC but unfortunately I had to sit in the trunk during the two runs ;-)

Great info! Is this flywheel or at_the_wheels HP? What does "HP DIN in" stands for? Are you running stock intercooler and y/pipe?

It's at the flywheel. They measure the hp that the wheels put on to the dyno and when they reach max rpm, they put the car in neutral and wait for it to reach idle.
During the max to min rpm, the driveline loss is calculated.

Stock intercooler, stock Y-pipe.

Ok thanks....forgot....you said it wasn't working

P.S. If you decide on a Midpipe...remember Rene has one for sale.

When I did the upgrades, the intercooler was next on my wishlist.
I hardly ever use my high boost setting anyway.

In fact, I hardly ever use the car at all.
I drove less than 1000km last year.

Too many cars, too many speed camera's & too little time...
