Moving to Bamberg, Germany...

I'm in the Army and am being reassigned early next year to Bamberg, Germany....

I was just wondering if anyone else on here is in the area, how much of a pain it's going to be to bring my fd, and basically what to expect in general. I've only been to Europe on my way to Iraq and back, and thus don't really know what to expect.

Let me know what's up

Thanks,
Brent

if i remembered it correctly, germany are not too restrict about cars from other countries coming into their country. they do a visual inspection as part of their road worthiness. i don't remember if there was a smog test. everything is done on post as far inspection and issuing you a european license plate (unless you buy a car from the economy, then its a different procedure). you have to take a driver's license test and be issue a diver's license before you can drive in germany/europe. their test is about 100 questions, multiple choice, with 40 questions on road signs. that test is no joke. i study my *** off and was able to get a first-time go on it. you will need car insurance too. usaa is the best. they are quick and easy. other than that, you definitely should take your fd and enjoy the autobahn. its a different world over there and well worth it. i had a blast during my short stay. good luck and have fun...hooah!!!

Thanks Again,
Brent

Nope. It really depends on who you get and where you go. Biggest problem will be getting the emissions sticker. They have emissions zones and you need all smog equipment on the car. What year is it? If it's 94 and later, you will be ok, they will just issue it. The 93 may or may not be an issue.

I got the emissions sticker because I just made the year cut-off without inspection.

Make sure it's not too loud too - they have a decible meeter too now.

I've never had to have emissions stickers. I have 3 cars registered (2 FC's and a new Pacifica) and I've never even heard of an emissions sticker. In fact, I had a buddy with an FC that had NO emissions what-so-ever on it and he passed inspection. As far as the German inspectors are concerned, they will ALWAYS be more strict than the enlisted guys.....ALWAYS. The best time to go register is a German holiday (of which there are plenty) because it will be just enlisted guys.
