what is LINK engine management system?
Hey all,
A company in New Zealand is offering an engine management system made by a company called Link. It was on the RX7 list..I noticed the FD built by Area 51 was using the Link system.. This is the FD with full R Magic Kit, displayed at Seven Stock. What country is Link made in? What cars usually use this, and how effective is it? It advertised at almost half the price as Apex PFC.

Link engine management systems are made by link electrosys in christchurch, south island, new zealand, they have come a long way in the past year or so but link themselves say they aren't be any means designed to run on a rotary, in NZ, i know of 1 turbo'd rotary running a link system and a number of non turbo'd PP race motors running link systems, like most systems, if tuned right they will do the job, they dont offer the support that there is available for the likes of haltech etc and basically only people in NZ know much about them, personally i run a Haltech as i feel for the price (which is similar to the top of the range link system) that the E6K is a far superior ecu system which suits my needs a lot more than the link does. link systems run approx 85% of all group A and group N rally cars in NZ.

Alot of rally type Subaru's are successful with that ecu down there.
They can be tuned from a PC or with a controller.
Antilag, water injection, waterspray etc.
Have a look at http://www.link-electro.co.nz for some info.

99% of the rally guys dont know anything but LINK, so they stick to what they know.

I have the link system for my 3 rotor. I looked at what was out there for my application and found that my choices were hal,mo,electro, link.
Haltech - told me that they we looking at a system for the 3 rotor and was told how would you like to be a testbed for us...NO
Electromotive - I have nothing against the product and have never used it but a certain 3 rotor car that was in Car and Driver uses the system and after a year it is still not tuned...NO
Motec - I was going to use them and I think I still will for next year but tuning was an issue as we don't know of anyone with maps (see link)...Not yet
Link - Cam at Pettit has provided a lot of guidance in the conversion. Cam uses the link system and set up my computer on another 3 rotor car...did the dyno runs and real world driving...packaged the computer up and UPS'd the system to me.

I dont know who at Haltech was telling you to become a test pilot for the 20B. I was running a Haltech on my 3-rotor engine around 3 years ago without a problem.
The only issue was the lack of Trail timing control on the 3-rotor engines due to being unable to run a wastespark system on them. Even Motec run without wastespark as you can see from their webpage.

its total BS, autronic cant run split trailing timing on a 13B, Motec cant do it on a 3 rotor, neither can Haltech, i very much doubt that a LINK could do it either. its all BS like most of the stuff the so called "rotary experts" try to tell ya when ya visit their workshops.

Matt...
Let me rephrase that...we were in contact with haltech USA about using their system so maybe it something they want to try their hand at. They said the currently don't have anything. Being the 3 rotor engine is an unknown quantity in the states someone must have assumed that it would have to be developed. Not that it matters but I will try and find the name of the person we were talking to.
I have heard that different systems are being used on your side of the world that are not available here. One of the shops that is successfull at the conversions uses the link system and has good results from it.
