Versions PFC

What is the difference between the new and old version of the PFC. I heard many different things on the bits and what not. Im looking at a older model for my 93. Will the older one work with my car and the datalogit? Is the newer version for the newer cars in japan? Thanks
Marc

From what I understand the different versions of the PFC's are actually not really nothing more than a specific commander must go with a specific PFC. And the only other thing is that as time went on APEXi fine tuned the base program, that's all.

OK, Glen from the Datalogit Group sent a reply to the answer of what Anti-lag, and Pro start are, as well as what the differences between all the versions of the PFC to add to this thread this is what he wrote:

Pro start etc.
Firstly Anti-lag and pro start are two different things.

Anti lag. (Bang bang, stutter box)
FC-Datalogit function built into the FC-Box.
Works on any Power FC that you buy FC-Datalogit for( but only tested on FD3S).
Some of the first batch of FC-Datalogit FC-Boxes will only allow Antilag to work on the old Power FCs. v2:XX.
If you have a 5:xx or newer Power FC and the antilag doesn't work and you want to use it just send the FC-Box to us with return postage and we will update it.
We didn't have much luck with Antilag on FD3S and don't recommend it. It is very hard on the turbos.
Amount of Fuel injected is increased and ignition retarded when the clutch is engaged.
This will burn fuel inside the turbo exhaust housing and spool up the turbo (or keep it spooled up if you use it between gear changes).

Pro start.
Apexi term for their soft duel rev cut. It is only available from Apexi called Power FC Pro.
(The normal rev cut is a fuel cut at a preset max rev.)
For Pro start, Ignition is cut (instead of fuel) at a predetermined max rev limit. (Set with the max rev limit on the commander or in FC-Edit as per usual.)
and ignition can be cut at a second rev limit if the car isn't moving and the clutch is engaged.
You might set it at 5400 rpm. You just bury your foot and it will bounce around at 5400 rpm then drop the clutch, once you are moving the secondary limit is deactivated and the primary one resumes.
You will get some boost at launch this way but not as much as Antilag. Antilag is very harsh on the turbo(s) and manifold etc due to EXTREME TEMPERATURE!

Power FC
There are 3 software and two hardware versions of Power FC .

Hardware.
(1) Old Power FC (for FD3S it was version 2:XX) has removable main chip socket inside.
(2) Latter Power FC (for FD3S it was version 5:XX ~) has permanent chip inside.

Software:
(1) Standard Power FC (LJetro) (Bosch L-Jetronic based Speed density system)
Basically the same for old and new Power FCs.

(2) DJETRO.
Comes with a map sensor to convert airflow meter cars to map sensor type. Like Nissan GTR 32. (They replace both airflow sensors with map sensors and you need one for boost sensing so you end up with 3 map sensors! $$)
FD3S already has a map sensor system so no DJETRO required... (FC3C needs this system to run power FC). These Power FCs are supposed to be only available from Apexi Power Excel dealers and are domestic use and sale only.

(3) Power FC Pro. (Pro start)
These Power FCs are supposed to be only available from Apexi Power Excel dealers and are domestic use and sale only.
They are based on the old Power FC. The standard chip is replaced with the pro chip.
If you buy one you will get the old Power FC with the different chip.
You can buy the chip on it's own and put it into your Power FC if you have the old version.
It's a funny chip and we can't copy it.
Steve has some if you have an old Power FC and want to try it.

I read that on the datalogit e-mail list, but it doesn't really tell what functions the pfc pro does that the current version can't.

Do you have to solder or does it plug in like RAM?

Does the version number(2.XX or 5.XX) show up on the commander somewhere when you start it up?
