Are knock meters universal? or are they car specific?
knock meter from japan

friend orders stuff from japan often and he said this knock meter would be $3-500cdn,whereas the j@s for me would be $1000cdn.friend says they may be able to make a car specific if they dont have it for the 1990 rx7 13bt engine, but in case they cant are knock meters universal?

The knock frequency is slightly different depending on engine contruction.&nbsp The rotary engine knock frequency is slightly different than piston engines due to the radically different combustion chamber design.&nbsp With that said, I dunno how the (HKS?) knock monitors are filtered - if the filter is not very broad, then it could pick-up knocking in a rotary engine.

Ever looked into the MSD one?&nbsp Those are quite a bit cheaper...

The knock meter shown in the first post is not car specific. Its kinda like the S-AFC there are list of cars that is definatley compatible with. The RX-7 is on that list as far as I can tell. I have never seen the instructions but have seen that same knock meter in a great number of FC's and FD's
