Engine Management Stand alone or piggy back?

Engine Management Stand alone or piggy back?
Are there any plug and play systems for our cars? I'm looking to upgrade the ECU with something a little more powerful. A good tune gains about 10hp when done with supporting mods I hear, on the N/A S4's.
Anyone running SAFC? Emanage? Megasquirt? Rtek7? Haltech? What's the best system for our cars? or the best value? I know there's a whole forum for this but thought I'd get some input here first.

I don't think most stand-alones and engine management systems are just "plug'n'play". There is tuning involved. I currently have RTek V1.8 - For now it'll be fine, but I plan on going with Apexi's Power FC in the future.

Seems like Ludwig was working on a PNP ECU for S5...

I'm pretty sure Claudio has been working with Haltech on making plug n play Haltech's... or at least kits that aren't so in depth. Check the Haltech section.
Personally, I went with an E8 on my S5TII -> S4 NA chassis swap.

Really depends on your goals for your FC. If you're planning on going with a turbo setup then a standalone would be the route to take. If you're staying n/a with a simple setup then the rtek is good enough. Apexi PowerFC for S5, Tec3r, Autronic, Microtech, haltech are you choices. Your standalone is only as good as the tuner you bring your FC to. So best bet is to find out who's tuning cars local and see what they're familiar with, unless you plan on flying someone into your area...

We've helped with the development work on the rtek and I can say I'm pretty impressed. There is nothing that can come close to it for the price. And even when price is not an object it's a very practical, effective unit with lots of features. In short, it just works. I would not even consider an SAFC for this application. The rtek has many more practical features than the SAFC (full timing control being the biggest) and it's plug and play. Rtek all the way. We're a Haltech dealer and I've tuned Microtechs and Hydras and the rtek works just as well as any of those much more expensive units for what you're looking to do.
On an S5 roadrace setup with the rtek we've found gains of close to 18hp at certain points in the rev range and around a 10hp average across the entire useable rev range when compared to a stock ECU. We're going to the dyno with another road race car Thursday for another back to back stock v. rtek tuning session. If I think about it I'll post up results. Those gains can be had with any of the other systems mentioned. There's nothing magic about any of the systems. It's all about optimizing the tune. But the rtek does it as well as the rest and quite a bit cheaper.

Thanks for the recomendation. Those gains are really impressive. You hit the nail on the head the most important thing isn't peak hp, but adding some hp through out the power band.
What are the requirements for the PDA? Though I'm well versed at computers I have never really dealt with PDA's.
