DIY v-mount tips
I am wanting to fab my own V-mount setup for my FD soon but need to know what guidelines to follow for getting it right.
1. Can I use the stock type aftermarket radiator in a flipped position with the fans still mounted the same and just have longer rad hoses or do I need a new radiator?
2. does the intercooler need to be a specific type or does it just need to be a decent size and preferably have the piping coming out the face of the tanks rather than the ends?
3. I have learned that ducting is the key and not to solid mount the radiator, doees this apply to the IC too?
Are there any special rules I am missing here guys or can I just start measuring up and making things fit? Alot of the home jobs on here look very good and are all slightly different but look to be the same basic principal. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be awesome.

from reading earlier posts in this thread some guys were mentioning that the radiator needs to be able to move slightly to allow for flexing of the chassis etc. Sweet as then guys, if there's no real formula then I will just get into making something that works and go for it, cheers for the input.

^^^Uh, well not really. I did a v-mount setup utilizing the OEM oil cooler. The location is between the radiator and the intercooler, not blocking airflow whatsoever...

The results have been awesome! 94 degree weather at Buttonwillow saw no changes in oil or water temp (192 water, 193 oil).

hopefully that charge pipe doesnt blow out under boost with the multiple couplers.
here's a revised pic of my new GT35 turbo setup. i had to redo the charge side, and i want to now redo the intake side so it's a little more baller looking.

There really isn't a lot of cutting up front. I had front end damage so it was easier to cut the non structural pieces out and replace with square and round stock.
With good planning, and a good fabricator, we came up with a great looking AND a great functioning v mount. We also incorporated the ps cooler in the set up during the planning mock up.
Dan and justin are great fabricators with a minds eye on the details that make a breat looking and great functioning v mount. Or roll cage, etc for that matter.
It is true, you get what you pay for, but I think it is stjill possible to get a good system without paying a furtune.

Obviously I've missed this thread for the past couple days... IDK what the F@%K got into Slide Alliance to make a **** storm of this thread, but lets get back on topic... 3 pages of BS... this is ridiculous.
POST PICS OF YOUR SETUP... constructive criticism is fine, but don't bag on someone's setup because you think it's inferior to yours. There's always going to be a better setup out there. There's always going to be a better fabricator out there. There's always a better idea.... so don't claim you're the best because the internet will prove you wrong.
Just to clear some **** up, I had a long talk with Chance "Slide Alliance" about what he started in here.. and that **** will not fly if he's to be associated with my shop. I in no way condone that type of behavior and it's not taken lightly here. I've prided myself and my shop to put out quality products and we do our best to take into consideration function and form in everything we do. Fortunately we've been blessed with having the opportunity to showcase our work on our clientele's cars and we've met or exceeded their expectations for the most part. This however does not mean that there's not better setups out there, nor a more basic setup won't suffice. I know what it's like to work with limited resources and budget. You do what you can with what you have.. that's how I started. Fortunately I've been blessed with opportunities to better my situation, which I can only hope that for others as well.
I would like to apologize for not catching this sooner, and I can assure things have been dealt with on this end.
Carry on.......

Good recovery, Slide. Hey, it's easy to get in too deep in this forum, but it takes a man to admit they're wrong.
This place has jokers- no doubt about that, but the majority of guys want to learn. You're in a good position to arm them with some knowledge, so show us what you got (just not too much-don't wanna **** off Justin).
Justin runs a solid operation backed by solid ethics. If you have the funds to pay for his work, you will not be disappointed. Looking forward to passing by the shop in the next couple of days. Besides, I've gotta rag on Justin about bitin' my look with his FD! ;-)

As for my Rad and pipes... I have a FC radiator that I flipped upside down so the posts that normally plug into the rad supports set into the Bracket that also holds the Rear mounts of the IC and uses 2 10mm bolt holes that are on the opposite side on tabs on a support bar.
The IC pipes are super simple. 2.5 slicone 90 off the Turbo, Aluminum 90 off that to a 2.5-3 silicone 90 into the turbo. To the TB, its straight 3inch that goes right below the PS pump, kicks up w/ a 45* and turns 90* into the TB.... it was the shortest and most straight forward thing I could come up with. Im gonna be going to my shop tommorrow to tear down my DD Subaru to put some sti Internals in it.... I'll snap some pics

just saying. looks cool though. cant wait to see it finished.

there were a few complicating factors that made us go with this setup. clearance issues with the front of the engine. swirl pot location. materials available. and the shape of the radiator that im using didnt allow for it to sit under the ic without rebuilding the radiator end tank.
i am thinking that i will put a vane inside the tunnel to help direct air towards the radiator. we will see how it works.
but honestly, im just glad that its done. i can now start to move on beautifying and checking off all the little things to get this on the road.

I think it looks pretty good.
I have a strip of like 2"x2" foam (might be a little smaller?) glued across the top tank of my radiator, so when my intercooler goes on it squishes it, and makes it an air tight seal. That might be a nice little tip for this thread. You can get that stuff at a hardware store, and I used spray adhesive to glue it.
