I could care less if it's an RX7 or a Pinto.

The fad was started by people that couldn't afford the right tires. It's stupid. Deal with it.

And the the person that tried to justify it with "performance" aspects for drifting... All you are going to accomplish is a wavering tread across the tire and accelerated uneven tire wear due to the contact patch being uneven. Run a good set of tires with stiff sidewalls if you want the effect you mentioned, and then you get the bonus of your traction threshold being more consistent. And anyone that really races (drifting or road course), knows that consistency is how you get the best results.

If you like your car with chrome wheels, that's your taste. I have nothing against someone modifying their car to their preference.

However, I do have a problem with people doing something and claiming that it has benefits that are truly not there. This is where my issue lies.

Considering that the trend started in japan, but became popular in europe because of tax based on tire size.

I strech my ****, I like the way the car handles, I like the way it looks, my **** is track only, and it costs a lot less for me to stretch than get bigger tires that throw my handling off, if it was autox or drag it would be different. But go to a drift event, check out formulad and d1gp i can gaurenttee they are still stretchin in the pros, why? Something has to have and advantage, and work better! Just my $0.02, if you dont like the **** stfu and leave, contribute or be quiet. You might not like it thats cool but some of us do and not for just the way it looks or because everyone else is doing it.

I got to do the flame tire stretch on a tractor tire. I used some sort of chemical to kill weeds. Its just like the video. Except way louder and the fact that I could of burned down a whole field. It was easy. Don't go crazy with the line of flammable liquid, Even though it looks cool when in it does squigglys and spells my name in cursive.

I am not responsible for anyone injuries, and burning a 10x10ft patch in that field trying to help out.

So, why is this off-topic? Its a personal preference to stretch tires, Do if, or don't.

youre an idiot who has no clue what he is talking about.

I run a 235/40 on a 10 and low rear camber and get perfectly even tire wear. Most pro dudes are running 255 at least and sticky compunds. But for most of us who drift just for fun its not as big a deal. My FC has a **** ton of grip as is with no swaybars and soft dampening.

i dont get why people do this, if you dont like stretched tires, deal with it, dont pointless post in a thread with a bunch of bullshit. I dont go in drag threads and tell dudes what theyre doing is stupid.

you suck. deal with it.

Wow I would like to offer some sort of real insight on this. Stretching the tire on the rim actually gives a more controlled breakout when drifting. I have ran almost every tire combo you can think of. I actually spent a whole year trying different brands and sizes. I found that stretching allowed the cars reactions to be more predictable. A "normal" ratio between rim and tire gives more traction because the sidewall acts as a cushion, if you will, and when entering corners the tire would have immense grip but would break very suddenly and when transitioning it is very hard to be smooth because the car would grip, slip, then grip again.

I find it better to use a better compound tire slightly stretched. some people can deal with larger sidewalls and be ok it just never worked for me or any other drifters I know......and I know many.

I normally have been running 17x9 with 235/40 tires Normally Falken.

I started using that when I was running 255/45's and Koguchi had more turn in and acceleration running the 235's. There are lots of other variables at work there as well but after discussing it with him I tried it and have never really looked back.

I had a feeling this was going to turn into a clusterfuck.

If you dont know WHY people stretch tires (no, it's not using cheap tires on wide rims, not in this case), dont post.

It's not a "ricer" fad.

For instance, i run a 205 on an 8. It's not an epic stretch but the sidewalls are stiff and the traction patch is perfect for grip/slip on how MY CAR is set up. It drifts when i want it to and grips when i need it to. Behavior is VERY predictable. Cars with higher hp can run a tire as wide as their rim but go lower profile for the same reason. To reduce sidewall flex. It's not just for "looks".



If you dont like stretched tires or have NO IDEA WHY it's done on rwd cars that were intended to drift, get the **** out and dont come back.

that is kinda like saying that F1 cars don't have the power to run full slicks, thats why they used to run the lined tires.

RX7,s 2nd gen's especially can only run a tire of about 9 to 9.5" wide and then there is the cost associated with buying a big wide wheel and the tire so that would be the reason for somewhat of a smaller tire. Also and more importantly Drifting is not about power per sey it is about control and tire stretching is one of the basic setups of that. Stretching allows you to apply your power more evenly to control the rotation of the car at the angle you want without over rotating or snapping back and forth.

Yes cars can benefit with more traction using a different sidewall configuration but it is not as conducive to drift. A tire with a "non stretched" sidewall will hold traction solid to a point and then it will break free with absolutely no control. I thought I explained that in my previous post...?

Personally I need to run 255's in the rear because my car does not have enough traction. Unfortunately I cannot fund wider wheels right now.

215/45/17 on a 9.5.... decent stretch, but it would require sum rolling and pulling to fit with tha 25 mm spacer, which brought it to a +13 offset. it should sit another inch and a half to two inches lower





Mounted sum 225 45 on my bros 10's. and threw sum 25 mm all around 0 offset

My buddy who owns an FD wanted to put 255/45's on a 9.5j, I slapped him. He now has 215's on his 9.5j's.
