steering knuckle mod ?'s
so i recently met this guy with pretty much a full shop in his garage and we got to talkin about cars and i brought up my rx7 and he said if i wanted i could use anything i wanted such as pipe bender his miller tig machine and i wanted to take my knuckles and weld them up but how much do you cut off of them and so forth if you guys could post pictures of your knuckles possibly with a stock one next to it and any other thing i would need to know before doing this would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

I read that whole thread and couldn't find any info on reducing ackerman at lock. However, on another forum, someone posted the Wisefab kit for BMW E30/36, also front steer cars, and my thoughts were confirmed. Move the outer tie rod pickup inward to reduce ackermkan at lock. The knuckles TurboIIrotor made and sold seem to be exactly what you'll need to do. Good luck.

That's how it is on rear steer cars. And I'm inclined to believe you more than most. However, that video doesn't have anything to do with ackerman.
Is this picture, it shows the tie rod pickup moved inward, bad for S13. But this is a front steer car, like FCs.

I cut my knuckles shorter and also moved the points out as far as they would go before hitting the rotor. This gave me way less ackerman.
Moving it outward will give you less ackerman. You can also just simply shorten the pickup but keep them in the same *plane* as the original points and it will move take away ackerman.
I just spent a bunch of time on solidworks modeling it up and the numbers are working.
It's the same for a rear steer car like a 240 mainly because of where the rack is positioned.

Still doesn't make sense in my head, but I don't use a front steer car. Then i looked at MAX knuckles for another reference. I stand corrected.
You don't want to show anyone the models you drew up because it will take away from your business? Fair enough.

hahah nah ill make a jig and **** but no one has givin any detailed info yethow much do you guys cut off do you get rid of all the angle portion of the stock tie rod mount position or leave some basically just need to know how much to cut off now

im not lookin for numbers just pics i need some sort of ideas i can careless if my first set sucks *** i just need a starting point.. and if you could explain ackerman in short terms so i dont go to overboard with that

make a jig that bolts the knuckles down where the lower ball joint bolts up. line the steering flange up with the ball joint using a straight edge and decide how much you want to cut out. i read that a guy cut out over a inch. i went 3/4 of an inch with mine

Position the end link slot more flat as opposed to (the end link bottom) angled towards the rotor.
Flap disc the sides of the spindle knub flat on the rotor side so you get more space to push out but leep in mind the position where the heim joint/end link will be at when mounted with the rotor on. If the end link rubs rotor you can machine a groove into the inner side of the rotor to get that little extra clearance.
