S4 vs S5 t2 diff

I haven't gotten to beat on mine to hard yet. I don't know what you used Buckey but I hear of so many people using brake cleaner cans and **** which just sounds ghetto. I think if you get a washer out of another diff and it's designed for it, it would last a lot longer. Or get all the oversized parts from Mazda tricks.....Now if your a baller and got the money then kaaz and fancy **** all day long.

it was $350 for their services. could've just bought an $800 KAAZ diff and been cool or the $1200 on an OS Giken and never had to worry about it again.

Weld the S4 T2 diff. Ive seen it done and ive welded many S chassis and miata diffs and so far the T2 diff has been the strongest out of all those hands down. There is so much **** to weld inside one to get strength its not even funny. One of the easiest diffs to weld ever.
+1 for a welded.
+1 for a welded.

there are plenty of reasons why diffs are so expensive. ive never liked welded diffs. the locked 24/7 thing sucks.
i'm just going to buy a real diff this time around. welded is cool for the budget dudes starting out and even some pros still run them.
spools seem like the better way if you're going for a locked setup - which i would do before just welding mine.

no one makes spools for fc's which is lame. i tried to get the ball rolling a while ago on it, but when i got to the splined/broaching part is where i failed (although i emailed the same guy, whos going to be rebroaching my miata hubs to make the t2 axles fit to see if he can broach a spool if i were to make one). lol.
on another note, let me fill you in on what im looking for here.
i have a stock NB miata. im eventually going to swap it and it will be a track vehicle eventually. so i will need a better rear end. right now i want to go t2 rear end... i just need the diff, axles, make a mount off the subframe, and to get my hubs re-broached to accept the larger axle (already know someone who can do this.)
BUT im not sure if i want to go with s4 and rebuild or s5 and weld it... id honestly rather have a welded myself, but no one wants to give me any numbers as far as what welded s5's can handle power-wise, so unless i can get some numbers, a re-shimmed s4 t2 diff it is

also, on another unrelated note, if anyone needs it. 88 FSM:

diff out of the car with cover pulled
diff cleaned
adding optional plate
welded
if you dont want to add a plate(just makes it stronger) then it should look like this when done
clutch type lsd exploded view
torsen type lsd exploded view
minispool
full spool

thanks for the pics, but i meant weld an lsd (if you were directing that to me).. no point in welding an n/a diff and putting it in my car (its the same thing)
also. what diff is that mini spool for?

then just take out all the plates, weld the pinion gears together and to the case.. same thing just case looks different.
its really not that difficult to figure something like this out.

i forgot about the different type of spools. Dans was saying it would be a full spool with my ring gear.
as for the gears itself idk anything about it. i do want to move to a higher rear gear though.
