More angle for Non-PS Rack?

I have an '87 TII that came from the factory without PS. I've been doing some searching and research on parts for getting more angle out of the Non-PS rack. I have seen that the outer tie rod end kits are only for the PS racks(Mazdatrix, etc.). Besides making some spacers for the inner rods, does anyone make a kit for the Non-PS racks?

I don't really want to change out racks or do the spindle mod just yet, since I would like to get rid of the stock outer tie rods first. I was interested in the Ksport S13 tie rod end replacement thread, but didn't know if those would fit the Non-PS rack.

Is it only the inner tie rod thread pitch that is different?

Thanks,

Andrew

Wrong, only the rack spacer angle kit is power rack only. The outers are the same so you would use the bump steer kit if you wanted heim outers.

Spindle mod or washer trick.

Spindle mod or make your own spacers be they machined or washers.

Awesome! That is exactly what I was thinking, only the inner threads are different. I will most likely machine my own spacers, or URAS, and go with the SuperNow ends. I will probably post up some pictures and specs during install.

Thanks for the info!

Modify the knuckles, don't even worry about machining spacers.

i rocked a manual rack for a long time and it was ok. but after buying a S5 PS rack and properly de-powering it i will never go back. the ratios are SOOO much better in a PS rack. lock to lock takes so little time now it's crazy.

for real, unless your running in formula d or something the only thing you need is modified kuckles. oem everything else.

they even speed up the steering a little bit.

but on a daily driver wouldn't modding the knuckles be pretty sketchy? your increasing the amount of angle turned at the tires per degree of the wheel. i'm thinking of cruising on the highway situations not so much in town stuff.

It doesnt change that much, even track racing a car with modded knuckles is fine, im talking 200km/h. I wouldnt go too extreme though, maybe 15mm shorter max!

Yeah, here's the breakdown... By adding spacers, you are allowing your rack to turn slightly further, giving more angle, but at the expense of slightly increased ackermen.

You DON'T need S13 parts, and they aren't a miracle, as there are plenty of companies that make misalignment/bumpsteer kits for FC's. All you will need is the upright, and the misalignment spacers...

If you are planning on changing your rod ends, go with a reputable teflon injected rod end like Aurora. They will be better quality, and last longer than whatever cool name Jap company is offering. Chances are the Jap parts are made in Taiwan or Korea, neither of which is of real high Quality Control.

Modifying your spindles, when done correctly, is the best solution, to achieving more angle, as you can keep some sort of decent ackermen, and you won't have any crazy binding issues when turning.

The ratio is better with PS rack, but you will have to drain as much fluid out of the rack, once removed... and loop the PS lines into each other, to keep contaminants from getting in there. I am running a Electric MR2 PS Pump currently, and it is a solid set up, with about an afternoon of wiring/mounting, and will be a better solution than manual/de-powered rack for drifting, as you need to be able to turn the wheel to counter much faster than you will be able to with the manual rack.

Good luck.

i dont know why there are always issues with people being affraid of modified knuckles.

i did my girlfriends 2 years ago, she dominates parking and u-turns. its really funny.- only modified the knuckles, that is it, oem everything.

i still daily my car, when i have to, far from logical but it works.

jeremy and i drove to events every weekend - all over florida, (haha jeremy drove to tennessee )- but we had our car set up, never any issues. we trailer now...

its real simple.

I'm definitely not worried about modding the knuckles, just wanted to see what all the options are. I didn't know exactly what would work and what wouldn't since it is a Non-PS rack and I see alot of spacer, tie rod kits, etc. that say specifically PS rack.

BUT, I just bought another shell and will be using the PS system out of it with modded knuckles.

Thanks for all the great input!

+1 on modded knuckles.I still have stock tie rods, stock endlinks, just 7mm spacers between the tie rod and rack. I dailyed my fc and drove to the track every weekend. I can park anywhere and make u turns in the smallest streets. It also makes my steering input FAST [like a Ko propo high speed servo in a r/c car ] hehe
