The turbo is a holset vgt he351he of dodge 6.7cumming diesel. I have not got to really test it out to much. I only did a couple of small test drives but man does it pull nice. Heat is might be the only issue with this turbo. I plan to give a good going over next season. Its getting cold here so it time to put the cars away lol.

that is a good question.

ive been watching these variable geometry turbos for a few years. and most are controlled pneumatically but can use an electric motor.

I think that the holset vgt he351he is electronically controlled but im not 100% sure, but yeah how are you controlling the vanes lol

I've see people gut the electronics and use a second wastegate to open thevanes. It can go from 9cm2 up to 31cm2 with the vanes fully open. Could be pretty violent but damn they are heavy units.

Controlling it is way easier then I thought. I just use a spring to pull the actuator back. exhaust back pressure pushes the vanes open the spring pull it back when pressure goes down. Its so simple it hurts my brain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiDAB2bB7t8

correct me if i'm wrong but the reason that vgt turbo's aren't used at the moment is they can't handle the exhaust heat produced by a petrol powered engine? Where diesels run a **** tin cooler.

Very interested in your progress though. We have big rigs come through here at work, a lot of the new trucks have the cummins engine in it with the VGT (its a huge CHRA on the turbos) and keep joking to the boss that if his not careful, he might find a truck missing a turbo and going onto my little track car.

I have hit 1000c on the egt so far no problem but that was only real short run. I will need to get this car finished up and hit the dyno that will be the real test. The flange is some orphan flange. I just made my own. It look close to a t3 but it is not. I dont think this turbo will make big hp numbers. I am expecting around 450whp max but with loads of bottom end.

saw a bunch of people wondering how to control this turbo...Fleece performance makes and electric controler that workes off of boost pressure/map sensor.

if anything gas powered motors emit exhaust that is cooler then that of diesels exhaust temps. however i have read different also. http://www.ehow.com/facts_7819560_ex...vs-diesel.html

I can assure you rotary exhaust is much hotter than diesel at idle.

Now a turbo rotary can easily make 1800 degrees.

Hell my car is generaly 1400 to 1500 degrees crusing at 80 on the interstate. Most diesel trucks run these temps at full throttle.

my diesel with same turbo sees 1500-1600 for long grades fully loaded. I have no issues with this trubo on the rotary at all. i do keep my egt no more then 900c. But it sure does spool nice. I have more vids posted on youtube from my dyno time. All run where done in 4th gear. I did have a issue with traction on the dyno.

What do you mean? Car runs pretty good. I am sure if I where to invest more money into a better ecu would I notice a difference. Probably not. Its cheap and gets the job done.
