I drift an rx7 and I say it is a drift car. It has power, rx7s are easy and cheap to get, amazing control, and most imporant rear wheel drive. A little suspension upgrade, the 50 cent steering mod, and remove the DTSS. The rx7 is so well balanced and without the dtss soooo predictable in a slide. I have also noticed that even when I have the stock suspension I am able to come into a corner MUCH faster than a 240. Or maybe the 7 wants to grip so much that it takes that extra speed to break em loose. Anyways simple cheap mods and you're right there with the 240sxes.
How do I know?
I have done it. :P
And I can't wait till next season.
SOME people drift 240sx's ... does that mean its not a drift car? :P

^ You know whats great about drifting in an RX7? All the dumb NA drift bunnies that think a stock 4-lug no lsd RX with blown bushings and cut springs can drift, once they see a real car set up to drift. Whats even better is the look on there face after said "professional" drift car comes around a corner at 60 mph, only to be passed by a heavily tuned "grip" RX7 doing 85+. So why isn't there a drifting thread? Because there are too many people that half *** it, and show off in front of Starbucks, than actual RX7 drifters who have something to contribute to the forum.

LOL at your SN prescription!! I always thought that was the most clever name on this forum!
a lot of gay people PIIDB , does that mean that all men are made for it??? I think not.
The 7 is a purpose-build GRIP CAR, AKA Sports car. Mazda Spend MILLIONS on developing the chassis, suspension and even the glass for rigidity under hard cornering. Any RWD car can drift but it does not make it a drift car.
Maybe if the manufacturer came out with ads that said: "OUT NOW!! NEW, ALL PURPOSE DRIFT CAR FOR YOUR DAILY DRIVING NEEDS!!!" THEN you could say THIS is a DRIFT car.
I don't have anything against drifting but I've spent several years and a lot of money to build my car how I like it and I don't think losing all that work is a good use of my time and money. I've seen many threads where people lose their cars in less than 10 seconds due to driver error and/or road conditions
Am I a good driver, yes.
DO I consider myself to be perfect? no.
Because of my imperfections I don't think it's worth the risk to drift either of my two FCs. All my time and money would have been in vain. I could be like most of you and drift all the time and not crash for years but ONE crash is all you need in order for it all to be gone. That's assuming it's a mild crash and I survive.

now does anyone wanna battle on the validity of drifting as a RACE-ORIENTED sport.
I mean in a real race you're going for the best time and/or first place (depending on the sanctioning body) but in drifting you're basing it on which one looks prettier as it goes towards the finish line.
kinda like figure skating. It requires lots of skill and practice but it's no speedskating.

lol its funny how people hate on something they dont know or cant do. I drift yah i spent all my money on traveling to events this summer because i love competing. yah i have done ten dozen autox's and yah my "drift car" has seen the road course a few times as well. But i sure as hell dont talk **** about something just because i cant or dont do it. i dont build my cars to drag race nor do i focus on it but just because i dont do it or think there is more than just going strait i DO NOT hate on it or think i am better than the next person that does focus on something like that. GROW UP GUYS

I agree that there should at least be a subforum dedicated to the sport of drifting. if you don't like drifting, you simply don't have to post OR EVEN look in that forum if you don't want to! I love drifting just as much as i love road racing or autox, it is just another motor sport whether you like it or not.

there really is no crazy difference in handling set up of a drift car and a grip car. but scince you know so much about it maby you could tell me a few things
