I agree, the FD is probably the most difficult rear drive beast to drift in its stock condition. It simply wants to hold on to the road! Its a handling machine, not a slipping machine.
Go buy a 89 240sx with no two body panels painted the same color, and learn how to drift in that. then if you get really good, spend the money on some really tight suspension work for the FD.

drifting kills your suspension parts. i drift in the rain cause it is alot less ware on the tires and parts. you cant really do that with the e-brake though, i use the clutch and throttle to correct. not just countersteering. it makes for a more accurate and controled drift

Well in stock form, you cant adjust brakes that much.
Different brake bads would make some small adjustments to brake balance.
You can adjust the e-brake wire so its tight, and use it.
Specially on wet track its easy to start drift with e-brake.
Id say that you need to go to track and try, youl need to master all the diffrent tecniques to be good drifter. IMO
And drifting in rain, well its 100 times easier, slower and boring... Good for noob to practice, but dry conditions is faster, more difficult and gives the adrenalin that drives me to do this... : )

Listen man, you wanna go sideways in an FD then go right ahead! If you're having trouble w/ the e-brake and you're a beginner you could try power-over drifting or the clutch kick to start. Try practicing in a nice clear space, like a big parking lot, to get your skills up. If you don't wanna keep pouring your money into tires, you can practice in or after a rain so that there's less wear on your tires.
But if you want to make it easier on yourself, you can always add on a few mods to help you get sideways. I'd say a suspension and brake change is probably in order. I'm not really sure if FDs come w/ LSDs stock or not, but if not you're gonna want to buy a two way LSD. That way, you're not fighting your car to drift.
If you're still wondering whether or not you're having a brake issue, go to the 3rd gen section and look in the archives. Or better yet, copy this thread and ask around. I'm sure there are people nice enough to give you the right info, or at least point you in the right direction.

^I know that SOME versions of the FC do. But some of the versions like the SE or GXL don't come w/ LSDs stock. So you have to buy an aftermarket LSD. Cusco makes LSDs for the FCs and the FDs

As to your original question, yes you can tighten the wire for your e-brake.
In regard to beginning to drift, you've already have enough power to start drifting so just find an open area and try feint drifts and clutch kicks. I'd only recommend initiating you drift with the e-brake whenever your doing speeds of like 60+

^You mean power over. That's a pretty good start, but that's just the beginning.. If you've been practicing enough, you should be ready for some e-brake drifting or clutch kick drifting

*sigh* e brake is one of the biggest and best tools to use in drifting, great at low speeds n great at high speeds couldnt ask for more. too many times do i see ppl initiate w/ power over in a low speed corner directly in front of a wall or clutch kick; its fricken scarey i dont understand y u ppl just dont hit the e brake real quick. it'll save ur *** from the plow!
if ur in japan theres like 100 courses to choose from to go learn how to drift at, a good place for you to start out is driftland. you can drift the fd im sure but if it were me id hold off on the fd n get an fc or something even a 86 so u can become a better driver w/ a low horsepower car; then step up to the fd.
