Good first mods to get drifting na

I must be a fat *** then cause i never had any problems with my stock seat. I entered turn one at Thunder Hill at 80mph and didn't notice any funny business with me flopping around. Although the drift lasted only a few moments as i was still NA, scared shitless and it was the first time I'd ever done a full track and not a skid pad or a parking lot. But maybe it's just different for different people and different styles.

With the stock seat I would have bruises all over my legs from trying to hold myself in place lol
Seat is very important IMO

Safety apparently isn't a huge concern for people. Perhaps we need a sticky dedicated to it for the newbies? Granted i'm STILL a noob and i've been drifting almost every day my car isn't broken or out of gas since the end of last summer.
Leftcoast, you are a fat *** or for some reason you're more dense (like dark matter or quarks) that leaves you stuck to your seat. maybe it's *** sweat. Maybe you kinda brace yourself without even realizing it? Rest assured all i'm doing is throwing the wheel around, turning my head and shifting gears. I'm about 150lbs, 6'1" and prolly a 32-34" waist so the stock seat did NOTHING for me. Not the case with everyone and i understand that. I do get jerked forward hard sometimes when i shift lock or play with braking though which calls for a harness which i will order later. SFI approved and dated harnesses used and bnib second hand on ebay cheap. Dont buy shitty steering wheels and dont buy shitty harnesses. China parts are like a good ******* but with herpes, not a satisfactory nut. I mean, you can joke around with that **** and safety as much as you want but start watching some crash footy.

It's probably my ***** thats so dense and heavy and that's why I could stay glued to my seat so easily, it's enormous weight is what causes my very low center of gravity. That explains it all
All BS aside, he's asking about first mods to do to his FC just to get up and drifting, so I assume he's gonna be doing things like J-turns, 180 stops and figure 8's or circles. I don't think he's really going to be flying all over the place while just practicing the basics. Right? Now when he starts throwing some real speed and angle ito it, that's a different story.

j turns?
people actually did that out of the drift bible?!
eff that go big or go home! start with donuts. set up some boxes or something, and then try to do figure 8's between them!
2 laps, and you'll be so pissed off that you keep running over the boxes that you'll figure out how the ebrake works and start spinning the rear with handbrake then clutch dumping hahaha

If you have the car and it runs and drives, then just pump gas get some spare tires get to your local track and let it rip man. worry about mods when you can afford the, unless your a baller, your really not going to get all those parts all in one month just have fun with what you have and upgrade when you have the money

^ I can kinda vouch for that. I have stock na seats/wheel and I am thrown around the car like crazy and I'm all banged up. I weigh like 175 and am 5'5". what I wouldn't give for a cheap seat and harness. lol, I just bought coilovers so seat is next. and by cheap I mean a good deal on a quality seat btw.

40hp probably takes a bit of technique to just keep a donut going huh? lol. I thought my na FC was slow. lol. those TE72's are lighter then our cars though aren't they? I have been looking at getting a TE72 wagon eventually and I am pretty sure that even the wagon is at or less then the weight of my FC.

i can't drift or do donoughts with an open diff, at least not without being all jerky and gaining traction all of a sudden. you kids must have a secret, or i missed the part were he said he already had the LSD>

when i started drifting it wasnt like it is today where everyone knows you need an lsd, or coilovers.. me and my friends would run wherever we could with whatever we had, we would cut the springs to be lower and tightened the ebrake to lock the rear but we would usually scandinavian flick with a clutch kick to initiate the drift, it wasnt hard to slide a car with an open diff it just took more speed alot more clutch kicking and the usual mid drift ebrake not to mention crazy psi in the rear wheels, there is no secret its just the fact that when your young and broke and lack knowledge you run whatever you have as hard as you can to do what you love to do

It's already been said a bunch but a seat and steering wheel are awesome upgrades. i too thought the stock seat was fine until my skill improved after drifting for a while. i got a corbeau full bucket and its AWESOME! i hate the stock seats now. I also got a GT grant mahogany wheel for the bling factor but that actually improved comfort and feel as well. its smaller and sits closer to me. my knees don't hit now. I drive N/A so **** power lol suspension and lsd would be my next step. After doing this for a year and a half I'v done all the noob bullshit and learned from my mistakes.

hey i dont wanna thread jack but was wondering if someone could tell me a couple things about tii rear diffs as i have a vert and hope to play around with some drifting.. i have the opportunity to buy an s5 tii rear diff for $200 is that a good deal? can i just swap that in or do i need other things, driveshaft etc? is the gear ratio better for accelleration compared to the one my 88 vert came with?
