*** Important*** Fontana Sucks!!!
Well, after being on the phone with Fontana for past 30 minutes, I'm so ******* frustrated dealing with them that I'm thinking about NOT having this event!! All they want to do is change things and they think that they have monopoly over Deals Gap!
I'm sorry to do this, but I don't have time dealing with bunch of idiots at Fontana!
So, if you guys want to have an unofficial event, go ahead! I'm done!

I don't know what to say either.. They gave me some trouble last time and I dealt with it... I thought if we did all our meals with them, I thought they would be more accommodating toward us but instead, the management is keep saying, "things have changed", "we are not making money", etc etc.. and kept on changing our deals! I miss the previous manager/owners.
Another problem is that there isn't any big hotels near by.. which means we would have to go to the next big town. I just don't have time searching around and dealing with others (I've already tried with Topoco lodge).

Well, if you want some help scouting around for other places or you want someone else to call Fontana or whatever... just shoot me a PM and fill me in on the details. I'm wondering about this place even though it's obviously geared toward motorcycles...

someone from, http://www.dealsgap.com/forum/
just PM'd me and they said they might of found a place. Problem is, big groups like us will have problem finding one single place to stay! Unfortunately, I'm pretty much fed up with BS with Fontana.. So, talking to Fontana is done! I think 4 months of me trying to talk to them and working out the detail is enough.
I'm pretty much had it with this event as all i seem to get is headaches.
However, if any of you are looking for a rotary event to attend, I would recommend Speed for Sale event in Oct. There are also some great roads here in AL.

There are some places in robbinsville I know. If you want my opinion which most probably don't, I honestly think that everyone should stay where they can robbinsville, fontanna, tapoco. And bring a damn cooler if you want lunch, and eat whenever, wherever you want.
We should have a centralized meeting spot at a certain time like last year, and then leave from there with the parade lap and then everyone do what you want, go home when you want, go eat when you want, go crash your car if you want. But honestly I think things are getting a little too coporate in the first place. Too much for phil to do arranging meeting spaces and meals and lodging for this many damn people. I know you want to make it a little more interactive and give people plenty of options on things to do, so that more people will come but hell, you can't do it all.
You should sell shirts before hand and maybe some afterwords, but as far as trying to organize all the other **** I would leave it up to the people that wanted to come. I would say, "We're meeting at the dam at **** if you want to come then be there by then we'll leave the dam for our parade lap at ****. Thats it. You're done.

I'll still help out if needed, ie T-shirts, meeting spot, speakers (LEO and THP) and such.. If this sounds good let me know. Lunch, dinner, etc will be your own thing and also places to stay! I hope people will avoid Fontana.. but thats up to you.

Now I see why Fontana called me back after 4 weeks of emailing and calling them... Hmm.. I guess they are trying to lock me in now before I found out about the damn bridge.. WOW! Shady *****!
From RX8club:
From RX8club:
ouch man. I had a decent experience with them this year. But I wasn't an organizer. Also man, the bridge leading to the dragon is closed for 6+ months right now, so fontana village isn't really the closest place anymore because you have to drive out to robinsville just to get to the dragon.

Anyway, thats sucks about Fontana being such jerks, but I guess they prefer to baby their Porsche owners more than deal with us lowly RX-7 guys . Thanks Phil for all the work you have done this year and all the past years. DarkKnightFC is right, a little informality is the right way to go.

Phil, we all are still wanting this event. I know you're cool head will prevail. Several of us are more than willing to be delegated responsibilities. I've only attended this year, and it was clear that you needed help.
Because of you this event has become LEGEND................wait for it.............ARY!!!!!!!
My point is Phil, this year has been great for rotary owners. We've made a lot of progress getting us all communicating. The informal event scenario works. Other than the car show, poker game, and rafting, the BOTD is just a pile of rotary owners hanging out shootin' the **** and driving hard. Oh with a lot of hamburgers NOT cooked by fontana.
Take some time, don't think about it for a while........ then let us all help.

That really sucks, especially after all the business we've brought them the last 3 years, well I guess if we do this again next year we can make a informal gathering, I good with the idea of people staying where they want, eating where they want and we just announce when to meet to take the group photo and let that be it. Well talk about it Thursday night @ SPEC.

Thanks guys for the kind words! I'm bit frustrated at work as our lab has just increased double in size and have a troubled graduated student...
Anyhow, today incident just pushed me over the edge as Toni at Fontana was just complete BITCH! Just so people know, I try to give everyone a chance before I blow up. And today was the day I had to do so with Toni. I been trying to get in touch with her and have sent emails after emails and phone calls after phone calls asking her to call me (since late July/early Aug). She has made multiple mistakes both over the phone and on the contract she has sent me. I been trying to fix and lock down the contract and all Toni and Joey (dining manager) are doing is leading no where and wasting my time.. And today was the end for me when all Toni was doing was giving me excuses after excuses and not even wanting to listen.. Thats when I blew up and said "Forget it!". Hope you understand, this isn't my job nor do I get paid for this.. I mearly wanted to provide the most economical and simple solution for us Rotary community. But I can not go beyond my time and effort to work with idiots like people at Fontana!
First 2 years (previous manager and owners) were very humble and very accommodating. But since Philips took over Fontana, they have become Very hard *** complete bitches running the places. I almost didn't want to do it last year at Fontana but at the end, they bent their ways and accommodated us.. But this year, they tried to give us earlier times in the year and trying to charge more and more!! I mean I'm guaranteeing them 150 people, 3 meals, and lodging at their place.. I personally think thats a lot of people and I think most business would want that.. Apparently Fontana thinks they could do better... Hmm.. My goal now is deter people from staying at Fontana...

Well, I went over to s2k forum to warn S2k guys about Fontana and looks like they pick a different resort to stay at...
www.nvnc.com
I might give them a call and see what they can do for me..

I saw your post on the S2K forum. I am a former second gen S5 owner and now I am S2K.
We are going to be at Nantahala this year for our Dragonball Run.
It is truly sad to see what has happened at Fontana. Maybe loss of lots of business could prompt the owners to sell to someone who gives a damn about customer relations.
Best of luck to you guys on you events.

I'll be glad to.
After we get back, I am sure the impressions will be posted on our site. If you don't hear from me, poke me in the ribs.
