Threads that ONLY the thread starter can post in
ALL too often someone with a wealth of knowledge tries to start a thread to share some EXTREMELY useful information with the community, only to have some jerk repeatedly interrupt, interject, and ruin the whole attempt.
I know the point of a forum is too allow open exchange, but I think it would be extremely useful if the thread starter could control th econtent of certain threads. this would prevent thread hijacking, trolling, and all sorts of other problems that have drvien away extremely well versed and talented individuals.
a perfect example is the squelching of a HIGHLY informative thread about intake design by rotarygod. someone started interrupting and the utility just ceased and it turned rotarygod off to sharing, which is a tragedy.
to a lesser extent, i frequently would like to start a thread with purely technical contents. . .none of the one liner "great setup" or "GTFO" of any other senseless drivel. that way you don't have to navigate your way through heaps of crap to find the useful information. people who wanted to share their viewpoints with the thread starter could do so via PM, and if the threadstarter felt it to be relevant to the thread, he could post it for everyone. if someone wanted to repond to the thread to the whole community, they could start their own thread, be it private or not.
i'm sure i'm not alone in this sentiment. . . can we please start a movement to get this done.
thanks guys

forgive my shining brilliance. . .
i actually don't know. where is said report button. i gather that this achieves what it is i am after.
as for my avatar. . .it clearly serves its exact intended purpose, a display of a wealth of ignorance (an oxymoron on multiple levels. . .i'm a clever retard)
thanks

bwahaha, well you are at least somewhat witty and clever. For that, I'll show you where the report button is.

it's the button in the red box.

hmmm. . . i appreciate it
Having never used it and being incredibly lazy, i'll just sit here and wonder idly how well it actually works. obviously it just sends a PM or email to a moderator and leaves it to them to handle.
that being said, i stand by my suggestion. especially in cases like the 20B forum where there is no moderator (which happens to be where i intend to create a thread that i want sole control of)
oh well, i guess i'll continues drudging on wishing for a pseudo single author thread until someone tells me to quit being a whiney b!tch and go start a blog at which point i'll say eat a bag-o-d!ck$, blogging is for homos exclusively strictly to be reactionary and over the top as is par for the crouse around here. YAY!

I think this is a good idea in some aspects, but what about mods who created stickies? Granted, there are TONS of ppl with VERY useful information that aren't mods and who don't have the ability to lock a thread, etc....is that what you're going for?

more or less. . .just something that the person who started can have ultimate content control over. i feel this would be easiest to satisfy with some from of post that doesn't allow responses by anyone other than the creator. i dunno the inner workings of our fancy interweb super bulletin corporate overlordificationismality. . .
