Winter tire bargains

Hi guys,

Been looking for a set of winter tires and the following are the best prices I've found.
Anyone not recommend any of the following brands or can find the same product for a cheaper price please let me know. Feel free to recommend winter tires you've tried on before as well.

These are all winter tires sized 205/55/16
Prices are per tire and it includes the $5 tire fee and taxes already.

BFG Winter Slaloms - $145
Yoko IG20 - $155
Bridgestone Blizzak - $180
Michelin X-Ice - $185 (Yep, not XI2)

Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

I just went to Kal-Tire and got their in-store brand. It was a better price than Crappy Tire. They don't make Motomaster snow tires anymore; they just carry Goodyear Nordic instead.

In london, I always go down to Becks tires for good used tires (80-90% thread) last year I bought some Nordics which are actually very good and costed me 160$ with installation and balancing and had about 95% thread on there (they were 185/65r14) this year I went out and had the choise between those and the toyo garit HT both for 200$ installed and balanced for a 195/55r15 tire we'll see how they work out this year. I never got stuck once in the rx7 last year with the nordics though and even went through a parking lot that had snow to about 1/2 way my doors.

Good used tires is a good idea, I might need to look into that for my dd.

The Kumho KW-19 is a good tire, I have some on my wife's Saturn, they're the best winter tire I've driven on. They should be quite a bit cheaper than the good winters from the bigger-names - the Blizzaks, Hakkapellitas, and so on - ours are 3 winters old now, but it seems to me they were just slightly more expensive than Walmart Wintermarks (also not bad for the money, but definitely not top tier on ice).

The Calgary Sports Car Club does a winter autocross series (sometimes known as rallycross - autocross on mud/gravel/snow/ice), and the KW19's are very popular for that - most tire for the money, since all winter tires get chewed up pretty fast running hard on gravel anyway.

Keep an eye on Kijiji....you may have missed out already, but I've bought many good sets of winter tires that way. I always insist on Blizzaks...personal choice. BTW, I did really well last month. I bought three sets of tires from Tirerack and had them shipped to a consolidator in Niagara Falls, NY. Shipping was about $10 per tire, the consolidator charged $5 per tire...then my gas and what I left at the border for customs still saved me tons over buying them here.

If you want to consider a really good all season tire, check out the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread - I was pleasantly surprised with its ratings for winter driving conditions.

I don't think that I would ever put All season and winter tires in the same league. I personally prefer getting a set of summer performance, and a set of snow tires and go year round with those two types than one set of all season.
