Have you passed the etest with this car before? 94 octane will not help any, It all matters on how you burn your fule. If you are not burning it correctly then higher octane will be worse... Warm the hell out of your car before you go test... like right before and then post results. If you already passed it before then you can get a conditional 400$ pass where you will spend 400$ to imp^rove situation (USUALLY ONE HIGH PERFORMANCE CAT WILL RUN YOU THAT AT A SHOP) AND YOU WILL BE GIVING THE PAPERS JUST THE SAME.

clean oil is a no brainer, and a full tune up helps also. I barely passed as a hot rod last year, man my car polluted.

what do you mean by cat converter? did you remove the catalytic converter? if so, i would strongly suggest putting it back in

If it won't pass a Gas Station,it won't pass emissions!
Seriously though,If the car is pretty well stock, and has a good operational cat and air pump, it should be OK.

Don't dump your cat. If it's a street car you can still be pulled over for spot emissions checks, and you can drive by emissions "sniffers" that will detect your smoggy car and bring down the law on you. I understand Ontario's fines for tampering with emissions equipment are pretty harsh. Get a high flow cat if your current one isn't.

If you run a cat you NEED the air pump in an FD.

Also change the o2 sensor. I have a 94 pretty much stock including cat but in recent years it hasn't been able to pass by a bare amount. Everything seems to check out fine so my next step is to get the injectors cleaned.

Just go for the test.

"If I don't pass, what happens?" You're out $35

If you don't pass then you get the failed report and try and figure out what's wrong.

My car has a blown coolant seal and I failed my first emissions test, took the report, looked at it and figured a set of plugs would get me by. Changed them, passed with flying colours on a blown motor.

Also, for the misinformed. For a conditional pass calalytic convertors are exempt from the $400 limit (read: does not count towards) Additionally for the conditional pass the work needs to be done at an approved repair centre (read: can't buy the parts yourself and show up with receipts). Many people get confused by this as you CAN go buy parts yourself and do some work to get the half-price retest. Not the conditional pass.

It'll clog up b/c it won't get the O2 it needs to burn off the carbon.

Your cat will work without a air pump, not as efficient but it will work.

A cat without an airpump will burnout prematurely and will not pass emissions. RX-8's don't need air pumps (for emissions) since they don't have port overlap, FD's and below do.
