Why My Car Hates Me.. by CS13B
Well I'll just start by saying that I daily drive my convertible year round. I bought it about 2.5 years ago now from an elderly lady and it had 66,000km when I got it. It now has just under 120,000km (about 12,000km on the new engine) so I have been driving the **** out of it since I got it.
Anyways at the beginning of this winter I was planning to buy a winterbeater so I could put my baby at ease during the colder months, but while we were replacing the engine in September, I crashed my mom's Mazda 3 and didn't claim insurance so I paid to have the two involved cars fixed. - no winterbeater.
So I had a long chat with my baby about going through another cold season, as I'm pretty sure until I got'er, she had never seen snow. I said, "Look,I just gave you a heart transplant, we can get through this together, just me and you." She purred(RacingBeat power pulse), then I slapped on some winters and we seemed to be getting along like never before with the new engine in.
Then once the temperatures started to stay below ~10*C, the bitch started acting up. My headrest speakers stopped working, my brakes were getting low, my window switches started intermittently no-worky-worky, wiper switch could only count to 1(and apparently was pronouncing 'mist' as 'missed'), headlights both burned out, coolant leak from a pinched hose (screw clamps would be a useful castrating tool)... the list went on.
I said, "fine... I'll take it easy for the winter and then in the spring I'll look after you.. dontcha worry baby!" I replaced the necessary things like headlights and hoses, but left the 'extras' like brakes and window switches until the spring.
Well winter went okay - at least the heater was working well. A couple weekends ago I was at my buddy's house for the weekend, where he has a nice garage setup with a couple lifts. We were drinking in the shop and when it got quiet for a moment I said... "you know I have had a sub and amp in my trunk for about 6 months waiting to be installed... you bored?" And alas, by midday Saturday my car had bass! I took my baby aside that drunken night in the shop and said.. "seeee, weeget aloiong alweight don't we?.. you pritty little thing you..."
Then yesterday the brakes started squeeling - time to finally replace those grooved rotors and put in some fresh asbestos! I took the car to the shop to get it in the air, and ended up spending a fair bit of cash on brakes all-around, and a rebuilt front caliper that was beginning to seize up. After driving the car home I suddenly realized that this little red bitch just likes to be pampered in sunny weather! As I pull in to my driveway I noticed my windows were working perfectly, and my headrest speakers were working again! I thought, "Wow! I didn't know those were brake-related!" So i took her back out with the top down and decided to check the rest of the little gremlins plaguing my car. Most of them seemed to be okay, and the wipers were working too!
As it turns out, rx7s really dislike cold weather! Show your baby a little love in the sunshine and all will be well this summer!
Since I'm home studying for engineering midterms instead of partying it up with green beer, I thought I'd raise my can of Redbull to say "Cheers" to another sunshine-filled summer with our rotaries!
