What an odd weekend...

Things have been a little weird around here lately. Generally in the form of strange failures and interesting diversions...

It all started Friday morning when the dog kept staring and barking at me. The staring is fairly normal, but the barking is not...Obviously trying to get my attention. When I got off the phone, I followed him to the photo copier. First thing I noticed was that it was jammed...Surly he did not bring me over to show me the copier is jammed? No, he had somehow managed to shove his ball underneath the damn thing. This is quite a task, as the ball has a diameter of about 4" and the copier has only 1.5" clearance between it and the floor....

Had a customer come in with a PC that wouldn't run Internet Explorer. It would just GPF. No obvious problems were found, and reinstalls of Win98 (over top of existing) didn't seem to help. Finally found that SETUPWV.DLL was running in the registry through RUNDLL32 and FUBAR'ing everything. Must have been a botched spyware/virus installation.

I ended up getting stuck all morning in the parking lot. There was only a light dusting of snow on the ground, yet the car would not move. In contrast, today there is 3" of snow and so far no problems.

Crane Supply called. My pipe has come in. I did not order any pipe.

Friday night the TV tuner blew up. Well, not literally, but it no longer works. S-VIDEO and A/V inputs work fine, yet the tuner is intermittant. OK...

Laptop screen is now broken as of Sunday night. Either shows all white or doesn't come on. Not the biggest deal as thie laptop is about 8 years old, but now I have to spend the $1500-$1800 on a new one. I've been wanting a tablet anyway.

The outside Christmas lights went up in about 1 hour and without a single problem. This never happens.

This morning, there was a huge puddle on the kitchen floor. It seems the drain has corroded through and no one noticed all the water leaking out...Off to the plumbing store for a new drain.

Oh, and someone gave me an '84 GSL-SE.

Yep, you can't do the Ottawa meet in a car that gets over 60MPG for more then 2 years in a row. Time to bust out the Rex!

Stones?....Kidney stones!

And it continues...

Yesterday morning I got up, made a cup of tea (I hate coffee) and sat down to watch about half an hour of "Corbin's Ride On" before getting ready for work. At about 8:20AM I started to get a splitting pain in my lower right side. Figuring it was just a muscle spasm or cramp, I went upstaires to get dressed and have a shower. Before I even got into the shower it became obvious that there was something seriously wrong. The pain had progressed to a severe, sharp stabbing to the point where I couldn't bend over or even comb my hair. I threw some clothes on and headed over to the hospital.

After arriving in the emergency ward and gettign a quick exam (yay, I get to pee in a cup) I had to wait about half an hour for the test results. Luckily, about 20 minutes into the wait the searing pain started to subside and by the time the doctor arrived it was only a slight soreness.

A few minutes later they gave me an ultrasound exam and confirmed that it was indeed kidney stones. Now some of you may be thinking "Oh, just kidney stones". There's no just kidney stones. I would recommend you never get them, but if you do you will understand pain. In grade 6, I cut my left thumb off and had to have it stiched back on. This hurt more, and there was the nausea and the sharp stinging in my...lower regions.

Anyway since I was in very little pain at this point, they didn't break them up with ultrasound since they were small enough to naturally pass. At that point they sent me home and since I as pretty whacked out on Percacet (fun little pills...those I recommend...) I pretty much had to stay home from work.

I got some extra pills because the doctors said that as the stones pass over the next few days there may be some "slight discomfort". Yeah, slight discomfort is why they advised me to take a double dose if it bothers me.

It did, but there's not much to see. The car is resting under a tarp at the back of the parking lot at work. I don't have any immediate plans for it since I'm working so much on Tina and don't want to get distracted.

Yes. "The Dog" Scotty is my boss' border collie. He's about 1.5 years or so old now. Very smart, creative and weird, so we get along fine...

As for the tire, the odd stuckness from last weekend was my only real problem. Parking lot is shear ice today, and no issues so far.

Lates,
That's what I'm planning. Tina will be out on the road this summer if it kills me. The fabrication left to do is minimal, so in the spring things should come together quickly and I can get the car broken in, then switch to the big turbo (for which I need to build a manifold and new intercooler setup...).

If Tina is not done in time, I'll throw some plates and insurance on the SE and drive it.

Good question. I'm not too keen on selling parts right now since the car is mobile and I would hate to ruin that in case it has to...well, move. But I'm certain that my plans for the car will not require the 680s, so by next winter/spring they'll likely be up for sale.

I already have plans. Thought about turbocharging it, but I've done the 6 port turbo thing before.. A full bridge 13B would be cool, but that's the next engine for Tina. There's always the 13BT swap which is far from unique, even the 13B-RE swap has been done many times. The approach I'm taking is a little differnet. It will be NA for sure. I'm frankly surprised that more people aren't going this route. I guess the possible drivability issues can scare the more wussy people away, but "streetable" has many definitions...

I have some 460's you can keep it mobile with, and it'll get better milage.

I had an abcessed wisdom tooth and they gave me Percacet - they are veeery nice. That weekend I went to my friend's bachelor party where we went paintballing. There is a pic of me crouching in the woods just staring at my gun. Yeah, gotta love em! lol

As for the stones, my friend just went through the same thing. He was told to drink a ton of cranberry juice, and they eventually passed: 1 easy, 1 um... "Burned like hell". Good luck with that!

I didn't know about the thumb Aaron! Luckily though, you didn't actually have to "pass the stone through". I hear It hurts tremendously when you have to excrete It out. What did they attribute this too? Diet ie. high In protein? Genetically proned?

LOL. If it was convenient to get at them right now, I'd be all over that. 4x 460 or 4x 550CC sounds about perfect for what I want to end up doing with the car. But I don't really want to get into it right now, since I have much work on Tina to do and that car is my priority at the moment. Plenty of time in the future to play 1st gen...

So do I, so do I. Ever see that Seinfeld episode where Kramer passed the stone? I'm hoping to avoid that.

Excellant! Yet another excuse to drink beer!

That's great! I stopped at the hardware store afterwards to buy some more plumbing supplies, and kept cracking up asking the plumbing lady if she had 1/8" nipples. :P

Nope, but I do play a lot with Tesla Coils.

There's still a 4MM wide stone stuck in my bladder, so one more to go. Apparently it's small enough that it won't hurt, but I want it gone soon. Keeps making me feel like I constantly have to pee. The doctor said that I was genetically predisposed to getting stones since my dad had them as well. Yay.

if it makes you feel any better i may have just failed a final exam that jeopardizes my chances of finishing engineering undergrad (at least on time anyways).

but it sounds like it's more wierd stuff than bad...well, except for kidney stones. good luck with that. if you do pull a Kramer, it probably won't be as funny in real life. heh.
genetic predisposition, eh? hmm, my uncle had huge ones before. he was hospitalized actually. i think he has them in a jar now

coldfire: if it makes you feel any better i just finished my extra semester of retardedness, and there is a light at the end of the beng tunnel. (3 semesters left! yay!)

my reccomendations: when all your buddies are gearing up for Iron ring night, lock yourself in a closet away from sharp objects and drink yourself to sleep.

It's tucked away at my secret storage facility. I'm not ready to dig into it yet. Especially if I end up taking it to Ottawa in the spring, it has to remain in good running order.

Coldfire: Unless where you are is different from other schools, it's pretty normal to think that you've failed the exam. Unless you did exceptionally poorly compared to your peers they'll likely curve it. I'd say close to 50% of the exams (mid terms and finals) I took in school had some sort of correction factor added in. 2nd year, first semester I thought I failed everything. I may have too. Don't forget about the mercy pass! Theoretically you should fail the course if you don't get 50% on the final, but often profs will cut you some slack and treat the exam like you received 50% (usually that happends if you would have passed if that rule wasn't in place).

Computer Architecture II is the name of the course...basically it's a whole semester of assembly code and learning the hardware of one particular microcontroller.

Snrub, you are right hopefully. actually it was a hard exam overall...a lot of people found it hard, so i'm hoping to ride the Bell curve
