Wow, nice road the only issue I see is oncoming traffic. I can hardly wait to hear your comments after you do a lapping day at Shannonville on full track. Tons of corners like that with no traffic, no police. You can go as fast as you want with no issues and if you overcook it, just a slight spin off the track into the weeds.

If you want the trees and hills, go to Calabogie near Ottawa.

Lapping days are like soooooo addictive. You can get hooked the first time. I love the fact that some new guys are going to try it this year. Just make sure that the track has long flowing corners that aren't too fast to start. Shannonville is just perfect as a lapping track. I found that Mosport DDT and TMP were too choppy in sections, but that just may be me as I started racing at Mosport on the big track and any other track I have raced on in North America seems a bit tight to me now. Actually Portland International Raceways seems to about equal in flow as long as they don't use the Festival corner section.

I usually go super late at night around 2-3 am I can see oncoming headlights around corners and it very very quiet there no police like forks of the credit I never ever cross the line cause just never know, I went last year with a couple 240's when my car was n/a and stock and they could never keep up with their summer tires, coilovers, when i got boost i went back and never had so much fun...

^^ that night i cracked my rad, smoked my ebc greenstuffs and turned my rotors blue

unfortunately a couple of the drivers that came out couldn't really handle there cars, one just "tapped" a guard rail with his rear 1/4, So now i dont take anyone there or if i do i go very slow

i never go with more than 3 cars including myself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNOOZ6zUtvM

I think im going this saturday to see how the rd is
I heard of Calabogie supposed to be awesome

I know im going to love lapping days already I just need to get my car ready really hope i can get a set of coilovers for the first day

I use to ride (race) my Suzuki GS1000 on Snake Road in the late 70's, looks nicer now.... These days i would suggest you take it to the track....way more fun and safe.

I just watched the video, LOL. Great stuff. It takes me back to my more youthful and dumb days.

All I can say is that you are going to be blown away going on track. Listening to the video (over the background noise or is that music, ha ha) you are barely sliding the tires. Thats responsible and I can tell that you are driving well within your and the car's capabilities. When you are on track, if you aren't pushing really really hard you just aren't fast. Oh man I want to be there on your first track day. It will blow you away. And if you ever make it into races, its a whole other level again.

Just ask Al Balinsky. He was a Lapper who was very quick at Shannonville. He then went racing at Mosport and really had to step up his game. there is nothing like cornering at over 160 kh and planting your foot to the floor to go faster.

Don't worry about all the mods to your car to start. Just make it as reliable as you can and come on out and join the fun. A lot can be done with setup to make the car faster. You really do't need the coilovers to start. If you get hooked, you will need your money for tires, brakes and fuel, LOL.

yup. I started having fun with my FD last year with autocrossing. I'll still be doing that, but this year i'm going lapping... nothing major done to the car, just reliability stuff, upgraded brake pads, rad, and maybe some R-comps. Should be fun..

I get going on autocross courses and it's just over way too soon! I think it's a testament to the quality of the Rx7 (and maybe a little to do with me) that in my first year of competition I was ranked 15th i think out of 60+ drivers... and that was with a large portion of the field running R-comps. Of course, i let one of the seasoned drivers wheel my car around the course, and he promptly set FTD... on crappy street tires, no less. what a jerk....

that was my slower vid my friend was in the car if im solo i drive much much faster

but i've never lost control of my car I feel confident enough i can dance it on the edge and stay within my lane, Nothing like turning the car with the gas pedal lol

i want the coilovers because my suspension feels worn out (280,000 km's will do that)

Honestly I think my biggest problem I'm not scared what so ever... I'm coming from snowboarding, Downhill mountain biking and bmx, but at least i know enough not to do it in a neighbourhood, city street or when there is traffic only when its free and clear ill go lol

That road does look like fun. I have to drive it sometime.

Having driven on a few roadcourses so far (my favourite by far being Nelson Ledges in ohio) and lots of street hooning I think they're two different kinds of fun.

Deal's gap is a lot of fun in the same way that TMP isn't. Also hate how TMP is super hard on brakes and tires.

Racing is a whole step up from lapping FOR SURE. My experience at nelson ledges was incredible.

Nice video though! I miss summer and fast cars that turn.

Damnn.. I knew it! lol

Well.. after looking into them and talking to a couple of owners.. there really isn't anything to worry about with them as long as you take care of it and maintain it.. like any car.. I guess the people who complain that they're such bad cars treat them the same way most DSM owners treat their cars.. hahaha.. so yeah.. looking into an 86-87 FC.. I don't wanna deal with emissions.

Do they allow convertibles at lapping days? I've heard from some people that without roll bars a lot of places won't let you in. I'm thinking of getting myself onto the track.. I just got my third ticket this week so I've got to feed my speed hunger somehow lol.

lol that sounds like a lot of fun.
There is a section of road that I particularly like, which is the Bayview Extension off the Don Valley in Toronto. Long sweeping curves, but unfortunately plagued with police sometimes, so I always use my radar det when I'm doing that.
Another section is the Bayview off-ramp from the don valley as well. When going south, you take the bayview exit and then theres a little extension of road, where you turn back into the don valley going north, its about a 40-50 second run that takes you through some awesome turns.
