Poll?
Sold my 1989 track toy for a song. No track toy now. What should I do.
-Track my freshly painted 1988 10th AE on time attach events and wrap it with race tape and pray no offroad/scratching happens.
-Install stock motor with mild BNR or install all my 400hp Haltech gear.
-Give up track days and move on?
-Purchase daily driver that can handle odd track days?
-Get new hobbies to involve my family
-Sell my body on the street corner for track funds?

And stop selling off your prized possessions for so little! (though i am happy i got your intercooler, lol). You're having a mid-life crisis aren't you? And it's screwin with your rotary mojo! Bottom line, 400hp haltech setup in ur FC, what use is it being pretty if it's not veing put to use? 3M Film it up & hit the track! Plus you invited me to track with you...would be sorta pointless if you backed out :P

Take up knitting, way cheaper than everything on you've list except for "sell my body on the street corner for track funds." GLWThis. At your age I don't think you'll get to many offers except maybe the Gay crowd LOL

Get that machine that Jeff Goldblum had in the movie :The FLY.
But toss instead of gene splicing a scientist and a fly, toss in a Blow up doll and a TII.
That way if you get a blown engine, someone or something is gonna be Real happy!

Go all out on your FC. Yeah it will get the odd stone chip here and there if you race it but the same will happen on the street. No point in having the toys if youre not going to play with them. When i first bought my second FC I was going to build it up, baby it and only take it for sunday drives because I didnt want to wreck it. But thats no fun always being worried about it and no fun if you cant use the cars potential. ....looking at the pictures of your track car you sold it was pretty damn clean still!
However if you decide to go in a different direction fell free to donate those race parts to my TA FC build

Ian, you got a beautiful 88 that looks brand new. And you already got a brand new race motor. Just put 2 and 2 together.
The car will look great parked in front of your house. And you'll love driving that beast. You'll be disappointed with stock.
Heaven forbid you sell it someday, but if it only had a stock motor, you won't get your money's worth out of that beautiful shell. But if you put that race motor in that immaculate car, well now you have a unique combination and you can ask a pretty penny for it. But you have to enjoy it first.

For the track, get a Miata.
(I would, but my friends would tease me too much for driving a chick car.)
If you want to run an LS1, LS2 or LS3, then what about a Pontiac G8 or a GTO? And it has a back seat.

Miatas and FCs (NAs, that is) frequently end up in the same racing classes - and people serious about winning sooner or later usually get a Miata. Although I'm still with my FC, I just haven't gotten over the chick car thing yet, and still love my FC.

People who tease people about miatas have no idea what they're talking about.
Granted, if you're tall (above 5ft9inches) then getting a Miata would not be a good idea. The car is small so space is limited.
Still, nothing like manuvering such an agile vehicle. And this is before you start to get serious about tracking the thing.
Miata and FD for life!!!

Ian, if you think that you could get more than $10,000 for the rebuilt, immaculate 10AE, then I would sell it and buy a dedicated track car for under $8,000. There are tons available at that price point and some are pretty quick. Then I would take the other money and stick it into the bank and use it for funding your on-track.
Lets say you find someone to buy the car for $14,000. You can buy one of these cars for under $8,000 and have $6,000 in the bank to play with;
eg civic track car - CASC Ontario Region Message Forums
FS: 93 Honda Civic Hatch / w Built N/A ITR Swap - CASC Ontario Region Message Forums
2002 Nissan Sentra SER Race Car For Sale - CASC Ontario Region Message Forums
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RACE CAR - Oshawa / Durham Region Cars For Sale - Kijiji Oshawa / Durham Region Canada.
And these are just the cars I found in the last 5 minutes. All will be fun and fast enough and all have the parts you would need to actually go racing. It is way cheaper and faster to start with a used race car than building something for yourself. For an example, Al had well over $40,000 in his car when he sold it and only got $14,000 for it. I have over $30,000 in mine and if I sold it I would be happy to make $12,000 out of it.
Granted non of these cars are still street legal, but most highly modded RX7's are only one more E-Cert or Roadside inspection away from being track cars only.

"song" = "cheap, undervalued" (Old Fart Lingo)
song |sô ng |
noun
a short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung.
• singing or vocal music : the young airmen broke into song.
• a musical composition suggestive of a song.
• the musical phrases uttered by some birds, whales, and insects, typically forming a recognizable and repeated sequence and used chiefly for territorial defense or for attracting mates.
• a poem, esp. one in rhymed stanzas : The Song of Hiawatha.
• archaic poetry.
PHRASES
Bought it for a song: informal very cheaply : the place was going for a song.
LOL

If you are running "Time Attack" and not racing it wheel to wheel how does it get scratched? Unless, you let others take a spin. Ran my 79 for 5 years in Solo I, won four championships and the only mark I got was from letting someone else drive it. The whole idea is to keep in on the black part.
