ON Watanabe Rim restoration

Hey, I picked up a set of two piece Watanabe rims today.

I am going to have them refinished. Any suggestions on what color I should powder coat them? I plan on keeping the polished lip.

This is the car the rims will be going on.

Thanks guys

Personally I would just have them done in the same colour they already are. I think that would look great with your car.

Cool thanks for your suggestion. The hood on the car is being repainted to match the car as well

I painted it myself, I was going for an abstract look. I decided to have some fun last year before I sent the car to be repainted this year(car is being presently being stripped down to bare metal, going back in the same color).

I wasn't gonna say it but I'm not a fan of the hood. I can get why you might do it before it gets repainted though. Kinda fun to just do something different. but when it comes time I agree that it should go back to normal. Good luck with it all and keep us posted. Big FB fan here.

That's cool about the hood. I will be starting another thread soon on the whole paint job and it's stages. So two votes for the original color on the Watanabe's.

Ok so I had them sandblasted, and powder coated. I also polished every single bolt, I did not mind as 64 was gonna cost $3 a piece. I also bought head caps for the bolts.

I have also ordered Watanabe Center caps and valve stem caps.

Wow the rims look amazing now. Glad your enjoying them. Post a pic of them when they are on your car!

PS: I would have kept the silver lip around the edge imho.

You should get the guys that powder coated your rims to put another coat with the bolt in there of just clear to preserve them for a longer period of time.

What did they charge you out of curiosity for the powder coating?

Looks good though!

Thanks guys.
Sam, the rims were powder coated 3mm thick and clear coated (3 coats) by a body shop today. The rims cost me $200 for sandblasting and powder coating, I think it was a good deal.

Ya thats not bad at all.

So the there is clear ontop of the bolts right? Thats all I was refering to. 3mm thick powder not sure how exactly you measure that, but thats an awful lot ... I just see it as extra weight

I was told by the guy who powder coated the rims that it would be 3 mm thick. Don't know much about that mumbo jumbo. As for the clear, gonna do the whole rim so I get the whole bolt not just the tops.

lol extra weight. i guess youv never held a box of the powder. 3mm like 0.05grams lol, not actually sure of the weight but if you were holding it you wouldnt be able to feel any weight no matter how had you try. thats whats great about it.

Sorry for the delay guys. Here are some before and after pics.
The first pic is of the car with my track rims, soon to be powder coated (Not sure of the color, I am thinking white. Any suggestions?).

The second is of the car with the Watanabe rims, I even ordered some Watanabe center caps

The cars suspension has to be sorted out as well, I will be taking it for corner balancing soon.
