v-band leak, any fix?
Hey guys, i installed two turbo kits from A-spec and they have terrible exhaust leak at the v-band at the exit of the turbo. Anyone has a fix for this? Should i try to use exhaust silicon?

YAY for American quality!
What you need to do is replace it with a Vibrant V-band. They have a lip on the inside edge that lines it up perfectly every time and will never leak.

Yeah, I vote again for the Vibrant V-band. Higher quality then most and the lip can tolerate a bit of warping (which is going to happen when you weld it).
If you want to fix your existing flange, it's likely one side that's warped. Buy a small bit of glass, about 6" by 6" and at least 0.5CM thick (so you don't break it). Get some 300 grit emry cloth and secure it to the glass. Lube it up with some cutting oil and then start rubbing the v-band flange until the surface is uniformly shiny. This is not fun, and will take some time if you can't remove the turbo/downpipe.

What is your installation procedure? I build my turbo set up much like the A-Spec kit and found that I had to start at the turbo and work my way back to the midpipe or I would get the results your getting…. What flange is on the A-Spec down pipe? If their pipe has a rolled flange it will more then likely break under hard use, mine did, I would also suggest the use of the Vibrant flange aswell.

i start at the turbo, i don't thigthen it up though, i make sure i get a good grip on the midpipe/downpipe flange and then i torque the v-band good. The leak is actually pretty big and it seems like the band on the downpipe is a little smaller than on the turbo. Flange seems to be part of the turbo, it was not welded there. So i guess since they were not from the same place, they might be different size (like 1/4 inch)

I noticed this when mocking my tubing for the downpipe onto the T04-R
It came with a v-band ferrel welded onto the turbo, and I had a V-band clamp set with flanges from ATP turbo. However, if you hold the ATP flange up to the ferrel on the turbo, the outer diameter's were about 1/4" off. Putting the clamp on would make it tight on the ferrel, but you could slide the ATP flange around.
Had to purchase the flange and clamp from the turbo ferrel kit to get a match.

that's how i feel the kits were made, it kind of pisses me off that would have to cut and weld an other flange from a kit that is supposed to be ready out of the box... plus, the manifold fit like ****. Oh well.

I'd be a little ticked if I bought a kit like that also. I'm just pieceing mine together though so these problems crop up...
If its the a-spec kit, just contact him. I'm sure he'll look after you.
