uhm. V8 for me?
I have a mazdamotorsport account. Called them to get a new harness for my 10th AE which is being converted back to stock. Don't want to use a 20 year old heat treated hack. Apparently discontinued no stock! Seems like alot of parts are getting hard to get. So much for me restoring my 10th AE back to stock... Gather I can call a few dealers to see if something is sitting around. Funny is two years ago there were some in stock....

But if someone gave me $1800 for my complete PS2000 and some extra for my turbo set up that could possible go too

can't remember which site, but there was a site selling new wiring harnesses a few months ago.
I've always contemplated the v8 swap, and gave up on it, but with the amount of difficulties to get a 20b in my car, i'm thinking a v8 might be more reasonable...

also... to add to the v8 concept... for the amount of money I paid to put the Mazda Reman. in my car... I could have done 3/4 of the conversion to an ls1... The custom work and the downtime is what swayed me... I have no problem putting one in an rx-7 anymore because my car is SLOW!
and actually, it was probably riding shotgun in my friends 93 camaro that I changed my mind... If I can slide through the first three gears with 285 tires on the back... for less than 5 grand... I'd be happy lol.

I know the feeling. 2 years ago I would have been able to get a lot of the interior trim pieces still for my 79, if I had it back then. Now, it seems like parts are being discontinued left, right and center. I can't even get a carb rebuild kit locally and besides the very basics like light bulbs and wipers, NOBODY has any stock of any part for the 79, even parts common to the whole 1st gen line. I had a hard time getting stock replacement rear shocks even, 3 parts stores said they couldn't get them and Mazda wants a crazy dollar amount for them now. Oh well, the joys of owning an official classic car.

That's the way it goes with any vehicle. There will come a point in time when the manufacturer comes to the realization that manufacturing parts for the vehicle is no longer cost effective and the discontinue ****. At least Mazda isn't like a lot of the domestic car makers that start to discontinue parts after only 10 years. All we can do now is hope that there will be aftermarket manufacturers that pick up the ball where mazda dropped it. Until then, scrounge what you can and get creative. Where there's a will there's a way!

Ian - you even thinking of putting in a V 8 reminds me of Jack Tobin tear-assing around that parking garage while drunk- just so wrong on so many levels. Come see us at Mosport and bring the family.

Yup. Will be swinging by for a visit friday after "something came up" that I have to do and will also swing by on Saturday with my SON. Not sure if Julia will be coming.
Been a while. Can't wait to see the new car and hang out again.....

people hate on LS1's till they drive a swapped car. Then they regret all the time they wasted and money they spent on anything that isn't one. A heads/cam LS1 with 400 horsepower in a 2800lb car that gets 35 mpg on the highway is hard to hate, especially when they last for 200,000KM and will do a burnout from a standing start at idle in 3rd gear.
Ian, try the USA. I bet you can get an OEM harness there.

I have an LS1/T56 FC. unbelievably fun and easy to drive. Stock motor with semi built trans for $2500 - very hard to beat for performance/dollar value. Plus, if you're even half-handy with tools, the swap is a breeze.

Andy, do you have pictures or does anybody else have pictures of the conversion? If I grenade this motor, I would seriously think about making this change. You can't go wrong with the torque and horsepower of the LS1. Just wondering about the weight shift if the engine is located that much differently than a stock motor.
There was a guy in Ontario Region about 10 years ago that put a small block Ford in his car. Sounded great pulled okay, but the motor was so high and far forward, the car handled like a pig.

Connectors would b a problem. A few connectors were so britttle they exploded Still will be looking for a new harness.
I didn't realize sasha does harness building.
I also have enough spare rotary engine parts to last me the rest of my life

But after hearing yours and seeing the nice install it would be tempting. But I have been a rotary driver for 20 years

I think your looking at this the wrong way. You should make a project of putting a nice stock 20B into the car envisioning what it would have looked like had mazda done it.

I really don't understand the whole V8 conversion. If you're so bent up about it, go out and pick up a Vette or a Camero already.
No need to butcher the RX-7. Has everyone forgotten what the RX stands for???
This being said, there are only a few V8's that sound right. And they all belong to a certain Italian manufacturer.
