Tranny Rebuild in GTA
#2
This is something I will be looking into also. Is there not somewhere that is more reccomended over the other? Is Mr tranny fine or will certain shops use better parts to fix the 5th gear probs we get?

I was a Transmission apprentice once upon a time and worked at a couple of shops that could do good jobs on any tranny. Metro transmission on Kingston Rd. have been around a long time and I've watched them rebuild Porsche, Mercedes and BMW trannies, which not many people can do. The only problem is the shop owner is IMO an a-hole but he has some of the GTA's best techs.
I have also dealt with Woodbridge Transmission, they are a much friendlier group of guys but I only used them for domestics but I recognized some of their staff from my Metro Transmission days.
I wouldn't just go to any Mr. Tranny, you need to know something about the staff. The only one I would personally vouch for is the one on Sheppard in Scarborough(Next to Tony's East). The owner is a good guy that is into racing, I've seen some nice vehicles come out of that place.
As far as parts used in the transmission, it is going to be upto you and what you want to pay. Nobody is going to use race parts without you asking them about it and therefore paying for it.

I never worked on an Mazda tranny and therefore couldn't tell you whether they exist for FDs or FCs for that matter. You'd be better of trying to search the info online. If you find a source for upgraded tranny internals let the shop know and they'll give you their take on it and whether they can get it.
I'm not an FD owner so I don't know the problems you guys are talking about and its been a decade since I touched a tranny.
The other thing you can do is call a couple of Mazda dealers and find out which shops they farm out their rebuilds to. I highly doubt they rebuild themselves.
