I don't have an engine torque brace, but I do have solid motor mounts. I love 'em.

An engine tourque brace will actually rip the stock rubber motor mounts. I had it happen to my 12A.
Install Solid motor mounts, then you dont have any bars or bracing cluttering up the engine bay.
I hate clutter haha!

You'll certainly get a lot less rotational movement of the engine, but you'll get a little more vibration transmitted back to the chassis. Not sure why it would contribute to engine mount failure...if anything I would think it would take some of the load off the mounts as the engine won't 'twist' as much against the mounts.

You can also use it to open really large jars!

I have the opposite experience. I broke the motor mounts twice because I didn't have a torque brace. But that was on the racetrack.

The motor mounts broke when I banged into the guardrail and popped the radiator hose the first time and the brake master cylinder broke the oil filter the second time.

In both cases the car was in good enough shape to go on and finish the race but loss of fluids caused a DNF.

On the street, I don't think it's a big deal but it is probably better than solid motor mounts (less vibration).

The engien WILL always rotate from torque. but if u use a turque brace and stop the top from moving. the bottem will. and theose soft stock rubbers won't handle that.

^^ Yes thats exactly what I was talking about ^^

Just revving my 12a while in nuteral you could see the bottem of the motor moving with the torque brace attached to the top. It took about 2 weeks before the motor mounts broke.

Solid motor mounts work great!!

Why do people always think that solid mounts will shake the hell out of the car? I've daily driven my rx7 for 2 years with solid mounts, and have never had a problem, it's the only mount that I will have in my rx7 from now on.

Why do people think rubber mounts are so bad? Old mounts will break fairly easily. Any rubber part older than 7 years is on borrowed time.

Solid mounts are necessary with big HP but not norrmally. The extra vibration may not be a big deal but vibration is also going to cause metal fatigue. (slowly but surely) I prefer Mazda's stiffer competition rubber mounts in those places where there seems to be too much motion.

The only times I have broken motor mounts other than just old age was after hitting guardrails HARD.

Ok maybe if you have a 500HP motor but...

I use an OIL/OIL adjustable torque stay/ dampner. insead of making the enigne 100% ridgid it allows me to adjust for track and road use by simply dialing in the right settings, like a set of adjustable struts.. this combines with a custom semi rigid tranny mount has the best adaptability in my book.

one guy I know uses hockey pucks for FB motor mounts.. races 3/8" mile ovals with it ever weekend.. perfect for the last 2 years...

^^ lol Good old Canadian Duct tape will work too, not for a while, not work as good as tape damn it's Duct Tape and Red Green uses it for freaking everything, i think someone should try it, just to see how long it will last? but i feel compelded to say don't try it on a RX-7 Try it on something no one REALLY cares about, like an old crx or something of the sort :P, and big ball of duct tape holding your engine in place ROLF!!!!

I still grin everytime I start my car up and take it out. Good, good good...good vibrations!

And no more nasty shudder in first or reverse.

Thanks again Nismo!

I was thinkign of the hockey pucks myself, very cheap and it'll make my soup can adapter. But hockey puck tent to crack from continues stress in cold weather, thats y the hockey puck lift kit is illegal. 1" motor mounts would lower the center of balance aswell. i'm still debating. cuz i don't mind changing pucks ever year to 2 years.

I think because the pucks are motor mounts the heat from the motor will keep them from cracking.

then you end up with heat cycling which may accelerate the breakdown.. still in two years if you need to spend another $6 for hockey pucks.. whoopie. at least then it forces you to do some upkeep on the lower end of the engine .. spot potential problems..

After I just buy one I find this thread. I guess I'll install it and tell you all about it. Should have bought stiffer mounts but at the same I've noticed a lot of you talk out of your asses. We'll see what happens.

Just called Racing Beat who has the fastest cars on the planet... They completely agreed with me!

Racing Beat also designed a lot of their products 20+ years ago. Not exactly "new" technology.

I had the RB torque brace on my FB, and it just made the car shake. I noticed no difference in response. Then again I would be lucky to have been putting more than 120HP to the wheels.

Torque braces work but your better off upgrading your motor mounts.

Are you retarded? Of course Racing Beat is going to agree with you, when you are asking about a product they sell! I Highly doubt the 238MPH car ran stock mounts, and a torque brace, I bet they ran solid mounts, or some sort of upgraded mount.
