Tips for passing aircare?

Hey guys, I drive a 1990 gx with hks intake, Dyno max cat back and no cats. I went for aircare and obviously failed. ( I kind of just wanted to get it over with so icbc would give me 3 months insurance)

But the results appear to be only because of the cat missing... But I want to ensure that I pass this aircare, mainly because I'm going to be doing a swap to a 13b-rew motor in feb and thats coming with a full exhaust, fmic and other goodies so I dont want to worry about aircare for a while.

So do you guys have any tips/tricks to passing emissions? Obviously after I put the cat back on? thanks in advance.

-clean oil
-newplugs
-running good in the first place (ie. not on the verge of blowing up)
-NEW cat (I swear by a fresh cat for an estest, the cars eat them for breakfast)
-OBVIOUSLY....a functioning emissions system{air pump, EGR, etc..}....(I have heard rumors of guys passing with no air pump, but you hear a lot of things)

Nice, Thanks. Sounds like all I need is a cat back on and an oil change. What about Higher octane gas? Does this do anything or is that simply a myth?

best gas for n/a is regular 87 octane...TII is 91octane(hi-test)..read somewhere the n/a runs best with 85 octane but they don't make it for pump gas..87 is the closest..the rotary engine does not do a complete burn..piston engines burn fuel more "efficiently"..and cat back..no..you need a good catalytic..mufflers muffle..catalytics absorb the"crap" in the exhaust..

dont you have to aircare every year?
If you were passing without a cat, then there is nothing that would cause your car to fail with a cat on it
