I should have watched the rally eh lol.

The car is 12A powered

Yes I was in the Targa section wich in simplest form is you are given a certain amount of time to get to the end of a stage which may be as short as 2km or as long as 40km and as long as you make or beat that time you do not recieve any penalty points and the car at the end of the 5 days that has accumalated the least points wins.

each class of car will also have a different time to complete the same stages, thus the older the car the slower you can drive without getting penalty points (time added) and that is why it is generally easier to win with an older car.

the class I was in was form 82 to 90
where as if you had a 79 you could have the same car as an 85 mechanically but have slightly more time to complete the stage then the 85 even though thay are basically or could be the same car depending on modification.

interesting. I am thining about doing the tour myself. It jsut seems more afordable right now. I want to do a full resto on the car after the rally anyway (assuming I will go). So why bother with heavy mods before if I am just going to take it all apart.

Do you think the grand touring section would be worth the money?

Originally as I decided I would have told you no. After being there I think you still could have a lot of fun with that. I was actually considering that perhaps I should have just done the touring in my convertible (a lot less prep). You are running on closed roads before the Targa cars go and I believe some of the averages require a fairly high average speed to make. However I think you would loose a bit of the excitement of trying to push your car to the limit to make the Targa times. You could drive faster in the touring and not worry about loosing the event but if your going to push the car I personally would like a roll cage and once you get that in a car you basically have what you need for the Targa class.

Having seen the Touring I think it could be worth it, but having done the Targa I'd say it’s worth it.

It sounds like perhaps in your case it may be better to try touring since you would not need to put a roll cage in your car. It is possible to install a bolt-in cage that could be removed after the event.

I did not think a bolt in cage would be legid for the Targa. For the Grand touring I was planing on putting in a well crafted roll bar. I am also a little worried about my engine because it is old. So if I push it to hard it might just give if you know what I mean lol. I also plan to do a full tare down and rebuild for my car after I do the rally. I bought the car with intentions of racing it lol.

I think if I do the Grand touring I would gain enough expirience, without pushing my car to hard, or preping it to much that I could establish how I want to modify the car... and if I am lucky, maybe I can score some sponership lol.

Being a poor university student bites... espetialy when you have an expensive hobby lol.

My goal is to compete in the 2009 rally. Gives me time to save up enough money lol.

So there is my grand master plan, what do you think? *Note* how school seems to come in second after car lol.

Sounds good, I have a roll bar that was in a FB, If you think it might help at all I'll drop it buy some time $50 if you want it. (i see that you did see that posting before)

I'm planning on going back to do the Targa 2010 or 11 I should be graduating April 2010. I'd like to go back with a more serious effort to try and place, and since I am also paying for school there isn't much money that can be stiffened off for that purpose.

I gues we are in a simaler boat eh lol. What school do you go to?

50$ sounds good. What kind of bar is it? How do the seats fit with the bar in? And right now I am up in Ottawa for school lol. So on Feb 17-22 I will be back in Brantford.

And You never know. Both of us might be competeing in a heavily modified FB in 2011 lol. I plan to go back one I get my feet wet.
