i think the dealer may, actually have a point. Its a 1992 (first year of the FD in Jap i think) and its also RHD. I havent seen any RHD FD's in Canada yet, i have seen FC, but not FD. So the dealer MAY have a point, even tho he didnt really explain that. However there are alot of dealers that dunno jack **** about a rotary and put **** like "4cyl turbo dohc", now thats its just plain funny! I went to a used car dealership once, saw a FC and started asking questions, then his "head mechanic" came out to answer rotary question. I asked how many valves it had, and hes like oh this is the GXL model with 4. i asked what the 13b injection on the manifold means and he was like "its the fuel system it has". I started to **** myself laughing, and walked away shaking my head.

Well, it was 91 when they introduced the FD in Japan.
Although there's no mention of RHD, you can tell by the vin (it's missing a few numbers...) and it says "passengers: 4".
He might have forgot to say it's 1 of the first RHD FD's in Canada....
It's going to be nice to see a few more FD's on the road.
I've been seeing alot of Skylines lately. I thought those things were pricey to import???

would be fun to see a LHD and a RHD at a red light together .... windows down, shake hands and then hit it

This can`t be right. I just imported 1991 Fc from Japan. This 1992 Fd was imported ilegally. Everyone knows that if you import a car, It has to be 15 years old. SO right now The newest you can import is 1991. ALso You can Import a 1991 Fd from Japan. The came out in November of 1991 I believe. I`ve seen very few of them on the Japaniese Auction websites. My plan is to sell my FC in the summer and import a 1992 FD.
There is also a chance that this 1992 FD was imported to the US first and then they transfered it to Canada. I`m not 100 percent sure about US importing Policies but I know it is possible. Skylines aren`t too expensive to import. To import a 1991 GTS`s costs about the same as a good 1991 FC.

if you read the description it clearly states that the car is still in japan and will be imported in january, most likely due to it's production date. I'm pretty sure that you cannot import car's before the 15 years are up unless you register it as a 'race car'

91/11 was the first build date of the FD.. so yes as of the month you wrote this post they are legal. Now if it was to be broungt in before that date.. it would be track or parts only.. forever.. unless you reworked the car as a 'kit car'...

lots of J spec FDs came with Rear Seats.... very very rare to find a USDM FD with rear seats... lots of FCs came with rear seats too... but they are very similar to the 300ZX rear seats totally useless unless it is an infant, or has no legs......

I htink the import rule is that 15 years or older is unrestricted.
before that, the car must pass Canadian road safety rules for that model year.
So you can import a 2000 WRX from teh USA for example, provided you install daytime running lights etc.
a friend imported a 2001 celica GTS as a rally car, but had to reinstall the airbags before he could register it in canada. Even though they were in teh car only long enough to get registered.
heres an example of mazda cars allowed into canada (from the USA):
MANUFACTURER ADMISSIBLE
1990 TO 1996 RX-7**
1990 to 1997 & 1999 TO 2005 MX-5 (MIATA)**
1992 TO 1996 MX-3 (PRECIDIA)**
1995 TO 2000 MILLENIA
ALL OTHER 1990 TO 2005 MODELS
EXCEPT THOSE LISTED IN THE
INADMISSIBLE COLUMN
Mazda INadmissable
1990 TO 1992 626
1990 TO 1994 323 4DR
1990 & 1991 929
1990 TO 1994 4 DR PROTEGE
Admissible means they must still be modified to meet canadian standards, admissible means no go , until the 15 year rule lifts restrictions.
for countries other than the usa:
VEHICLES PURCHASED OUTSIDE CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES
The Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Regulations require that all vehicles imported into Canada comply, at the time of importation, with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date the vehicle was manufactured. Vehicles manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, CANNOT be altered to comply and CANNOT be imported into Canada. The only exceptions to this rule are vehicles fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured and buses manufactured before January 1, 1971.
Vehicles acquired in foreign countries other than the U.S. and designed, built, tested and certified to meet either all applicable Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or all applicable United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and bearing a statement of compliance label affixed by the original manufacturer, as required by the Regulations, may be eligible for importation into Canada provided the vehicle has not been altered and the certification from the original manufacturer is maintained, which may be subject to verification at the time of importation. A vehicle imported under these conditions will be subject to the Registrar of Imported Vehicles program which may be accessed at the following web site: http://www.riv.ca.
