I'm kind of..... frugal (sp?) and so when my plumber says he'll gratiously charge me $650 to connect a few ABS pipes and attach the ANTI-scalding device and shower **** thingy (after telling me... "this won't be too expensive") I think "I can do this myself".
I guess if and when it leaks I can get him to come back in and fix my new bathroom. do these people have the same satisfaction and "warrantee / guarantee" that Steve will not blow their engine?
I imagine people supply Steve with their a list of their mods (fuel, ignition, intake, exhaust, computer etc.) and he takes time ahead to program some maps and whatnot right? I'm ignorant about this stuff, so I'm asking.
I attempted to write yesterday but it didn't go through.
I would prefer to take the time to research proper methods of plumbing my bathroom and trying it myself. (heck it's only water )
In the same way I'd prefer to take the time and research the systems of my car, seek some advice from many willing experienced people, and try it myself. People like Aaron and Fed's come to mind when it comes to doing things yourself. (now... Jamie did blow his motor last year he he.
tea and crumpets time....

Go Hard....or Go Home
I guess i was being a little harsh with my previous posts. I guess having played with cars for the last 27 years you learn a thing or two. Getting someone to tune an engine that they have no hand in building and preparing can be risky business. There are only a couple of engine builders I know that I can take at face value, whether it be for a rotary or otherwise. What I mean by that is if a builder told you he did one thing and maybe didnt quite do all or exactly what he said, you are passing wrong information to the tuner. That in turn can cause a tuner to over/under fuel etc. The tuner in who is coming may very well be the ultimate EFI tuning guru on the planet, I cannot pass judgement either way. It just sounds very expensive to me.

Expensive to me too. I got my Haltech for less. And street tuned? I can't drive my car on the street let alone tune it there. I'd have to trailer it somewhere etc. Easier/cheaper to get the Motec rep I know to come out during a lapping day. With Kan's rep I'd pay $400 CDN for two hours. I don't know many people that earn $200 an hour!

Most EMS will come with a basemap.
Also, you can find maps that better match your setup on these sites too, especially for the PFC and Haltech.
Kan has tuned a large majority of the FD's on this forum. So making a basic map from scratch is probably pretty easy for him. Then he usually just tweaks the map for each car.
Not a big fan of the street tuning either. I'm a firm believer that the majority of the dialing in of the cars fuel and ignition map should be done on a dyno, where you can run the car at a steady state. I know because I street tuned my car when I switched to Haltech and it takes a lot of work and time (and speeding).
Now, doing the final tweaking of the map for driveability, that should be done on the street/track for sure.

I dont know much about the difference between tuning on the dyno and tuning on the street but iv heard from a bunch of people that tuning on the dyno is only good for WOT and it hurts the driveabilty factor.

You are so correct!!!!! Dyno tuning is great for our race car because we only run between 6000 and 10000rpm and most of the time we are either no throttle or full throttle. When we do air/fuel it is at WOT we dont care about drivability at md throttle, gas mileage, emissions etc. Another thing with dyno tuning is most people look at peak HP not average HP. A lot of the time a good average horsepower is given up for the sake of the "big" number. I treally depends on what your needs are for the way you tune.

Thats exactly what iv heard from a number of guys, one had his FD tuned on the dyno and said he couldnt belive how much the driveabilty factor went down... So for most people its a good thing this is a street tune...

Yup,
Steve tuned my car on the dyno last year and while the WOT is smooth, it is running rich rich rich on idle and cruise etc. (to the effect of 276km on almost a full tank - 56 L. And that is just normal driving, not pushing the car)
I cannot stand behind my car when it is on, and if I leave it in the garage on start up for more than a minute, flies start to fall from the sky coughing.
I am not sure if the price I paid last year was supposed to only tune WOT, and if so, I guess I got what I paid for. But if it was supposed to tune drivability, then no, I did not. Maybe it had something with my car being the last one tuned at midnight, but in any case, unless Steve wants to offer to "fix" my maps for free, I wont be spending any more money on him.
Good luck to you all who think he will be able to tune all 10 cars (or however many it is) in the timeframe allowed.

Who ever has placed a bid on RXtrade please contact me!
I tried to pm you guys but was not able to as some of the names were not right. I am going to try and offer you guys an ignition amp at a great price if I can get enough of you guys interested. I know none of us want ignition break up when we are at the dyno. So please pm me if you are intersted.

I would suggest that you register with my site and post them. Then you could post a link to the auction in the thread. That way they can see a picture and a description.

HKS has to have som eof the worst tech support and sales people ever! I called them today and they said they would get back to me soon. I told them I need to know soon other wise they will lose me as a distributor for them. And latley i have been giving them lots of business. SO they said they will get right on it.
