Sports Car Revolation
I had to post because for some reason I can't get it out of my head. I watched SCR the other night and they were doing a comparison between a stock Mustang and a Done-To-The-**** Mustang that was putting out (what THEY said) around 600hp. The beef I have is with the inaccuracies that car magazines and shows produce. At the drag strip this INCREDIBLE machine's 600 HP pushed it's mass through a 1/4 mile in a whopping 13.??(92?) and reached it at just 'OVER 100 MPH!!!' I'm sorry but if you have a 600 horsepower mustang and all you can get is 13s at just over a 100 mph, you need help, and if that's all you can do with that car, I wouldn't admit it on television.
I'm embarassed for the owner of that car.

my friend has a '91 mustang, with slicks, gears and nitrous. Otherwise bone stock.
12.1 @ 110MPH.
my car is pretty ******* far from stock and I am not bettering his times by much, and really doubt that I could have on the stock turbo, all though with nitrous I suppose it's possible.

I watched a C6 Z06 run an 11.98 at race city on friday. Stock with street tires. Obviously you know they only put out 505 HP. 11.98 would equal low 11's at sea level.
Mustangs have to be one car that I see the most problems with traction. Which is ironic because its a tank weight wise. The 4 Banger Mustangs around here run much faster than the 5.0L's.

It depends on the suspension set up on Mustangs. My Cobra has IRS and you just can't get it to hook up to save your life. But on a road coarse or in the twisties its just awsome. Mustangs with the live rear axel make better drag cars.
I know one guy who drags his 03 Cobra regularly and he manages high 11's low 12's at the strip.
A Cobra (not mine) at the drag strip

I disagree, its not about horsepower, its about how you get the car down the track and how you get to power down to the pavement.
I've seen a a well driven lower powered car beat higher powered cars many times.

it was probably all driver....
who drove the thing? the owner or a tester from the show?
either way they probably never hit the strip too often with that time.
I've ran the TII when it was stock at the end of last season with a best e.t. of 14.3 at 100mph.........we're talking stock with a boost controller, intake and single exhaust.......CAN'T be more then 220whp and thats only 4 tenths off this monster stang......

I don't care who you are
if you have a 600HP mustang
and can push the gas pedal to the floor
you can trap higher than 100MPH.
hell
the same applies to just about anything
even FWD cars
trap speed has almost nothing to do with traction, only 1/4 mile time does.
anone who doesn't believe me, next time you go to the strip, intentionally blow the tires away when you launch, just spin all the way though 1st (and 2nd and 3rd if you have the power to), complete the rest of the run as usual and you'll trap HIGHER than what you would have if you had traction.

Trap speed tells u power, 1/4 mile time tells you traction. Usually less traction= Higher trap slower ET
