Spec-7
I am just wondering.... down here in Canada, do we have anything like SRX7 Spec-7 Racing?
If so I would like some more details, because this is something I would like to get involved in. If not we should start our own version of Spec 7.
Thanks, Ted

I don't think there's anything like that here
Closest thing is probably improved touring?
I'd like to get into motorsport but I think it's going to have to be in the forum of a ministock at the local dirt track.

We can let in the 1.6 Miata's as well.
The concept is basicly bolt in roll cage, and nothing fancy (ie: coilovers). So basicly Bolt on's only. And no engine mods. Also since the mods ar enot extensive, the racing is cheap lol.
Tell me more about this improved touring class?

There are no spec tin tops in Ontario other than the Honda series. You have to go to the states or out east for IT classes http://www.improvedtouring.com/
I put forth the idea of spec miata here but realized there are not a million miata's like in the states. Same goes for spec 7.
Trying to start any series in Ontario is useless without a big amount of sponsorship at least for road racing. You could use a spec 7 and run GTD in the Ontario sprints at Mosport and Shannonville. Only problem is you'll want to go faster and there goes more money. But if your happy where your at you could keep the car up to SCCA rules and head down to the states for some races.
It's very cheap to race at Waterford hills in Michigan www.waterfordhills.com
IT rx-7 video from Waterford

poo..... lol.
I supose I could drive my 7 down and race in IT, or spec 7. Now what about emision controls? I was unclear from the rules and regs documents if the emision controls need to be attached?
Thanks, Ted.

When I was looking through the SCCA rules I picked up that you could run any cat back, and hollo out all the pre cats, ect long as it meets noise regulations, however, I could not directly pickup that emisions controls had to be present. I figure if you have no cats why would their be emision controls?
Does anyone race IT or spec 7? lol
I still say we should make our own little cheap racing boddy.... sorta like SOLO I, but with other cars at the same time, and mandatory roll cages.

Build a Spec 7 and come on out.
I have been racing for about 25 years. I really like the idea of a Spec 7 Class but there are a couple of other things you should be aware of. The rules in Ontario region will allow you to run as a Spec & or Spec Miata racer with no issues. As Marc said you would run in GTD and after the initial buzz about being "out there" wears off, you will want to go faster. CASC Regional classes are basically run what you brung and are based on laptimes you run. You can modify your car to go as fast as possible for as cheap as possible
Talking about costs to go racing I don't know if a spec 7 is the way to go. My suggestion would be to hunt around a bit and buy a race car that somebody is just trying to get out of. It seems cheaper to begin with your street car, but at the end of the day after adding the required safety stuff and making your car bone reliable you will end up spending more.
My suggestion is to build up your street car, take the Solo 1 School get some track time with as many lapping days as possible (just like racing but without winners and rules) and after doing this for a year decide if you have the finances and desire to step up.
A perfect person to talk about this might be Balzz (Shane). This is what he is doing and I expect he is having a great time doing it and would be better placed to discuss the costs in money and time to run.
All I know is that everytime I pull my car out of the shop it costs me $1,500. This doesn't count costs for tow vehicles or spares or tools. Works out to be about $12.50 a minute. Don't let my wife see this......LOL.

Out west here, we have had for quite a few years what is essentially a spec 7 roadrace series. It's called Challenge Car, based on 1st gen RX-7's, and is organized under the Western Canada Motorsports Association (WCMA), which is the ASN/FIA Canada sanctioned body for the prairie provinces. The WCMA site is www.wcma.ca, and the rule book is found here: http://www.wcma.ca/2006%20Race/2006%...20-%20Race.pdf
If you want more info, Brooke Carter has been a, if not the, driving force behind this series, and his email contact info is available at the Calgary Sports Car Club website, www.cscc.ab.ca. Brooke sits as the Roadrace Director on the CSCC exec.

Intresting. I know building a car int eh end costs more then buying a race car, but to me it is about knowing that you preped your car, yourself, your way.
To mee it is part of the fun building the car.... besides it gives me braging rights lol. The solo 1 advice is good advice lol. I am already working on that (want to get some more solo II time in lol)
Thanks for the imput guys, y'all been great lol

You can buy a decently prepped ITA/7 with spares for $2500 U.S. That's about what a cage and a set of wheels would cost you here.
Definately do lapping days, cheap no politics easy to learn and there's always people willing help you out.
Right now i get great satisfaction out of lapping my stock 96 rwhp miata faster than better cars, no trophies but lots of smiles at the end of the day.
