ON Shop sells junk!!!!! For lots of $$$$$$

So I have been building my widebody FB for a year, and I have finally taken it for a spin on Friday. The engine has lots of power, and I hit 10 PSI around 3,800RPM (Knightsport turbo T3T4 hybrid ). I boosted 4 or 5 times before stopping to make sure everything was good, as the engine idled blue smoke poured out.. then clouds and clouds and clouds of smoke started to pour out.
At first I thought that it might be a popped coolant o-ring in the engine, but soon realized that it was the turbo which crapped out. When I reached into the cold side to check play the shaft moved up and down half an inch up and down if not more.
When I bought this turbo the owner was claiming that its a good unit... I have never ever had a turbo pop on me even at higher boost...
(not even my blowthrough 12A with a webber, which was running lean!!!! and a KKK26 turbo)

I think he knew that the turbo was smoking and acting up and still sold it to me, he said he has seen it running and it did not smoke at all.

He sold me that turbo at a premium price, as he claimed it was it tip top condition.

I have checked oil feed and return on the turbo, as well as the coolant.. no blockages no kinks.. and flow on both sides.... NOW I NEED A TURBO.. 7 min into running the engine...!!!!!

I'm not happy... do not buy anything from that shop, this is not the first thing I have bought from there that has not been quite up to par... (Like an S4 TII ECU/ and the AFM... and a few other sensors which ended up not working at all!!!!!)... but this is the straw which broke the camels back.

Be warned.!

It doesn't take long to reach operating temp (80*C+) in warm weather if you start driving right away instead of sitting around idling.

Yes checked for play...it seemed good. Plus the owner gave me his word that it was good... This kind of thing never happened when I dealt with mazdees or RPM.

Boosted 4 or 5 times in the first 7 minutes of running your car?

(correction).. after the car warmed up, I ran it up and down the street...boosted 1st and 2nd.
Then at Idle it made a noise and SMOKE!!!!

Now I need a turbo.. what would you suggest..

I was looking at either.

1. Rebuilding the Knightsport.. which is very similar to the BNR stage2
2. Picking up a T04E (Ebay)
3. STOCK S5
4. INPUT from the forum.... I dont want to change the whole setup I am content with the internal wastegate... anything that will bolt to the stock location would be nice.

Did you pre-lube the turbo before initial startup? Doesn't matter if it's used or not.

Max..Try a BNR stage 3.
I got one last year.I slapped it on and Ran it,and. I am real happy with it's Performance.
It is Plug and Play.
..NOTE: if you talk with Brian@ BNR,you can set up a "way" to alleviate the shipping Costs.I contacted him By phone and was able to get the turbo here From Kentucky to ONTARIO,Canada, and It arrived with absolutely NO Extra Customs Fees at all!!..I paid only for the Turbo and the cost of shipping.
Buying a Used turbo is really a Crapshoot. You can recieve a good "looking" turbo But it can also be a piece of ****.Even If the Guy swears it is a Good one.I got Fed up with Buying Turbos with "slight shaft play,Only been boosted twice,Driven by an Old Lady at Luskville on Sunday..ETC.
That is why I just Said Screw it and Took the Plunge to a BNR.I wanted to keep the engine simple, but have more power..and I was able to accomplish that with the Stage 3.
Good luck.(if you need more Info on HOW I got the turbo, shoot me a PM,I can explain it to you.) cheers,STYX.

Ill deff come by when I can get a ride up there... and pull the turbo off.

I put the turbo on.. and ran the motor almost 8 months ago... Thats when I said it was great.. there was no smoke..
Once I put a load on the engine.. the turbo just went.

***Yes I pre-lubed the turbo..***

Thanks Styx

okay so
after 7 mins of boosting the car 4-5 times you let the car idle and while idling you heard a noise and then tons of smoke came out the exhaust.
you then checked the turbo which had no shaft play prior to install and now it has more than half and inch.
so the turbo shaft broke while you drove the **** out of it.
this happens to new and used turbos.

(Like an S4 TII ECU/ and the AFM... and a few other sensors which ended up not working at all!!!!!)... but this is the straw which broke the camels back.

so the s4 ecu i sold you was **** is that after you tried to wire up the car with a s5 harness and an injector resistor block?
isn't the blue AFM still on your car as per your photo album?
as far as sensors did you come back to the shop to switch parts and pick up a s5 harness?

I came to you for S4 turbo stuff.. I asked for a few items which I gladly paid for, as you said that you had the parts I wanted...

You gave me S5 injectors just to sell me something... I had to rewire the injector clips and remove the resistor box.. (the injector plugs you gave me with the injectors were rotten, and were breaking apart.. your words about the rewire... "JUST CHANGE THE PLUGS" ) Only after I asked you about the resistor box much later did you mention anything about it..Thankfully RX7CLUB is here to help.

Pressure sensor.. intake temp sensor.. Had to buy elsewhere cause the ones I got from you did not work at all.

Came to you to change the TPS cause the one you gave me was wrong all together.. as was the throttle body.. Fuel rails.. and intake manifolds. Those I had to come and exchange multiple times as you had no clue which was which.. but instead of taking the time to help me you sent me off with replacement parts.. which I only got right after making my way to look at your shelfs.

I drove the **** out of it.. Not exactly... Drove it up and down the street in 1st and 2nd. Boosted...

"no shaft play prior to install" ---- It had an acceptable amount of shaft play this was not a new turbo.

This site is my place to express my experiences with products and vendors.... in this case products I have picked up from you...
This happens to new and used turbos... YES.. Yes it does ,but at the same time I picked up this turbo from your shop, therefore I'm expressing how upset I am with the service, and quality.

I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you keep on pushing on...

Have I asked anything from you?
A refund??? A replacement??
No I have not...

You will always have unhappy customers.. and the way you deal with them reflects on you, and your shop.

NOT LIKE THIS.. cause that is very unprofessional. (found this as one of your unhappy replies...)

"And please don't call me cheap, you’re the one who is cheap. The mistake I made was trying to help your cheap a$$. Oh and sorry if the pipe scared you, it was not to hurt you. It was a gift for you to take home and make yourself happy. Sorry I did not have any lube, I am sure you have some in your bedside table. "

all the parts you got from me is what you asked for you portrayed yourself as knowing what you were doing and building.
you inspected the parts and you paid.
yes some of the parts did not work out for your setup and yes you came back but i replaced what ever you wanted without hesitation whether is was bad or good.
Max, over the past couple of months, people on the forum have been trying to pull myself and my business down. I stand behind what I sell and my temper usually gets the better of me, I am just trying to protect myself and my business. My business and my customers are what come first. You are a customer of mine and I will do what I can to fix this problem you have with the turbo. Come by any time and I will do what I can.
