RacingBeat Group Buy????
Hey,
After receiving some pm's from various members it is clear that many local RX members are afraid to buy from the U.S. do to customs, shipping, and the overall time and hassle.
I have spoken with racingbeat and am considering doing a group buy for canadian members. I would like to get a general feedback on how many people are seriously intereseted in RB products and if there are any other companies which you would like me to approach to do a group buy with.
I understand that plans always change, however please only post interest in a product if you are serious. No matter how good a group buy is I will not be offering product at 50% of or any ridicoulous price.
Thanks,

it would be cheapest for me to receive a shipment from racingbeat directly to me. I would then ship things out. It should be cheaper that way, and then people out west dont need to worry about customs

some things to consider:
When importing a small amount of parts, as in a quantity clearly for a single vehicle, you'll pay comsumer-level duties. When importing a goup-buy quantity as one shipment, Services Canada is going to say 'ah, this guy must be a re-seller!' and look for the appropriate NAFTA and business paperwork. They'll assess duties on this assumption, and notify CRA, which will then contact the receiver (the person to whom the shipment is addressed) with an 'assessment' of how much GST you're to remit.
CRA may base their assessment not only on the actual GST you should be charging people for the parts you're importing, but the GST will be calculated based on CRA's iea of the retail value (not the actual amount paid). Furthermore, CRA may assess the GST not just on this one shipment but, on the assumption you're a business doing this on a regular basis, they'll extrapolate the GST you should be collecting on your 'annual sales'.
So you'll end up paying reseller duties, plus potentially receiving an assessment bill for GST that you should be collecting if you were importing and reselling this quantity of parts each and every month.
It can be cleared up eventually, but the last time I did this dance with CRA I was receiving GST assessments in the thousands of dollars range for 3 years before they were finally convinced it was a not-for-profit endeavour.
