opinions/where to buy brake pads

My first gen needs brake pads...

Looking at Hawks or carbotechs or something else that is better than stock.

Would like to buy in canada.

Can anyone offer suggestions on what/where to buy?

Where are you from? If you are near Ottawa I would contact Mike at No Limits Auto Parts and see if he has what you are looking for. Number there is 613-748-7278. Make sure to ask for Mike.

I bought my Hawk HP+ thru Rallysport.ca - they carry Hawk and Porterfield pads. I'm afraid I don't remember what they cost me.

Canadian Tire. Go in with the Hawk product number from their website and tell them that you want to make a "Keystone" order.

As for what you should buy, that depends on what you are going to use it for. Hawk HPS are probably the most appropriate unless you are doing track days or something (even then they're fine for a FC at the smaller tracks).

Jamester, if you want Hawk's go to Northern Performance in Hamilton. They have about the best prices in Canada and are a stocking dealer. I agree with Snrub, the HPS is a great dual use pad. Very good on the street and fine on track. The Premium Ceramic pads they sell at Partsource are also a very good dual purpose pad for a lightly driven street car on-track.

Little thought about fact is that Hawk Blacks/ Blues and their kin need to operate at at least 400 degrees F to work correctly. If they are used below that they crumblew and dust pretty bad. At Mosport I have a big issue in keeping the pads hot enough. With front ducts on my car the pads never get warm and they operate at about 250 F while the rears are at about 400 F. This means that the rears are working and the fronts functionality is compromised. In car it feels like yanking on your parking brake every time you apply the brakes. This is the problem we had at the beginning of the Sundowner 3 Hour Enduro last fall.

After the front ducts got smashed shut with rubber boogers, the front brake temps went up and "viola" balanced braking.

At Shannonville or TMP/ Dunnville, I would run every bit of cooling I could get and hawk Blues. Last race weekend at Shannonville, my rotors were over 800 F at the end of a 1 Hour race. Yes they did crack as they cooled.

As a side note I have done a low 1:42 at Mosport with basically no brakes at all. Remember Qualifying for the ALMS Race in 2004? I had a brake pedal that went to the floor and we still ran well, LOL. Luckily we got it fixed for the race and I did 1:38's. That means brakes at Mosport must be worth at least 4 seconds a lap.

Yes, I am crazy sometimes.

I have Hawk (HPS I think) brakepads for the front of my Integra (along w/ Brembo rotors) and I really like them. With the right tire, you can reaaaaally stop fast. Would recommend

Gawd, Northern Performance... I haven't been in that store since my dad bought a fold-down bench seat for our '86 Econoline!

Jamie,

Why didn't you ask via email? I just ordered a couple of grand of mazda parts from USA. I could've added you to the list and gotten you the pads for almost at cost. EMAIL!
