ON ontario insurance just got worse........

So i just got off the phone with my insurance broker, my renewal came in the other day and i expected a slight increase in my premium due to a 10 over ticket, and i open up the package to see that my rate went from 1150/year to 2600/year. so WTF how can 1 ticket do this to ones insurance rate, so i call my broker and start asking questions, aperantly this is my 3rd minor, so i now get a 25% surcharge, thats cool i f***ed up so i pay more i can under stand how this goes and thats alright these crooks need to go to hawaii at least once a year but why do i have to pay for the whole trip, but what i question is there math............
1150+25% sur-charge is a far cry from 2600, I state to my broker, she tells me that as of march 09, that this is just how it goes, due to some new rule that takes my 5 star driving rating and turns it into a 3 just because i got this ticket, I have been driving for over 10 years, the last time i had a rate this high is when i was 17, just after rolling a car off a highwaq, getting caught doing 178 in a 90, and rearending someone at an intersection, over the course of 1 mounth this happened, (yeah I was an idiot and sucked at driving, I thought I could drive well but didnt. we were all there when we were 16/17) I paided over 250/month for the next 3 years, on a dodge colt(man that was a fun little beater, and lasted through these three issues and then for the next 7 years), since then all has been not bad (insurance rate wise) untill this recent 10km over the limit ticket. So apearently i am as dangerous now as i was then according to the rip off crook bastard a$$fuc***G you dry just for fun douch bag insurance industry because we know that driving for ten year with out an accident is no sign of a responsible driver.

i cant understand that the only regulation in this industry form our govenment is that we have to deal with these crooks at whatever cost they(insurance industy) decide, as well they also have the government working for them (the police) when you get a ticket the government gets a small bite of the pie, but the real winner is the insurance company, as for the next few years you pay that fine several times over to your insurer, hello ONTARIO lets start making some noise, where else in this county, any county for that matter has insurance rates that compare to what we have here in ontario, and why is our government not stepping in and making us more like or neighbours to the west in manitoba with government regulated insurance not just the fact that we have to have it, the prices as well, that way would the money paid for having ticket to insurance companies might go to the government where it belongs to repair roads and help social services like health care, wich are directly related to accidents

and another thing
, who here knows somebody how is personaly involved or has a spouse/parent/close family working in the insurance industry, ask them about their rates and see how uneasy they get, i know a few people around here who get this type of discount, and they let out few details and change the subject rater quickly.

I just needed to vent this off, heres one for you insurace companies of ontario:sq uintfin:sq uintfin
's
something's gotta fix the insurance industry before if forces me out of this province.
that is all for this mornings rant.
have a nice day

I was just contacted by my Western Alumni association and they're gonna save me over $2000 a year for covering my RX7, '03 Matrix and '02 Frontier. I've been going through a broker for the last several years thinking that that was as cheap as it got.

Group rates are the way to go...

My Queen's Alumni rate was good. Then I got my Professional Engineer's Licence and they reduced another 20%. I was shocked. The savings are more than enough for me to cover my annual licensing fee.

Clearkut: How is it you are paying that much for insurance in Thunder Bay???? If you were a 3 star drive in the greater toronto area you could probably multiply your rates by 2X and it still might not be enough.

The irony is, a system that depends on us, is able to dictate when and how our quotes are governed. But what can we do? Nothing, not a damn thing. Or can we??????????????

Nope, you can't do anything. It's a series of calculations to get your quote. As long as they're are idiots on the road, your out of luck.

sorry for my explosion yesteday, sometimes you just gotta yell in public
so after calling almost every insurer in my city, dirving back and forth all day yesterday I have 2 brokers now that can get me back on track, with reasonable rates, just waiting a finall call back to see who is betteras both are about 1400 (much better, about what i expected with the new ticket).

I found that going straight to the companies they typicaly turn me down, if not for how old my car is they just dont have a market for me, or cost way too much,

yeah group rates are the way to go, I need a grouprate..........first I need a group........

what are the requirements for these groups to qualify to get a better rate?
how hard wold it be to start a local/web based group of sorts to explore the world of better insurance prices?

Hmmm... I need to look into this. Although, right now, for my house, truck and 7, I am paying about $135 a month.

www.insurancehotline.com - I saved over $1000/year on all 3 cars.

In addition to Professional Engineer group rates, there are other groups that can save money...sometimes employers are part of a larger group plan.

(I digress a bit) TD Meloche ended up being the cheapest for me due to PEO group rates, but ironically they will not ensure my FD. I'll be 40 this year, perfect driving record...blah, blah, blah. The reason is the fact that my car has aftermarket wheels and a Racing Beat cat-back. They feel I will be 'more likely to street race' now that my car has heavier wheels and a shiny exhaust....bottom line is they'll come up with whatever excuse they want because they can.

LOL, find someone to lend you some stockers and OEM exhaust . If it will save you some bucks why not.

I always use insurancehotline.com as a rate barometer when I consider shopping around. And according to it I am currently under $200 their best quote. I'm with TD Meloche Monex under a professionals organization also.

I'm also currently switching over to TD, but they've asked that I have my 7 appraised. I'm wondering if I'll run into problems because of all the aftermarket mods. I'm thinking about using the antique car route hoping that that will avoid the chance of being turned down for the car.

Yep, "Gray" insurance is the way to go the minute you can. My friends classic Mini costs him $250 a year (must stay under a certain amount of mileage a year etc.). I'll find out the name of his carrier.

ya you don't have to do the appraisal thing, unless you want full coverage which i would assume you would but talking to the guy on the phone i told him I had about 15g's into the car and he said i should go and do it but don't have too ... its was only 40$ a month more i think for full coverage

I called TD today as well for a quote and they said that I would only get basic coverage and if I wanted full coverage (collision) that I would need to get the RX-7 appraised. Does anyone know where I can get the car appraised in the GTA? Have any of you gone through this procedure?
