OMG! New RX-7 on the way!
Sorry this is a french article, in the most reputable newspaper in the GMA. I'll translate!
This article is about the new MX-5, but here is the last part of the article:
Translation:
The 3rd generation of the MX-5 will arrive at dealerships somewhere around the end of august. That will give us 6 months to get used to the fact it won't be labeled Miata anymore.
Oh, here's a last hint: Kijima, the engineer, has revealed that his next huse challenge is to bring back the.... RX-7. "Our client-base is waiting for it. We have a 4-seater sports car (RX-8) and a 2-seater roadster (MX-5), a 2+2 coupe RX07 even more powerful should become our first-class performance car"
This privileaged information, public relations agents quickly dismissed it, swearing that there were no plans to this effect...

I think a 4th gen RX-7 will eventually become reality. That's not really my concern; instead, it's whether or not it will actually be good. If it doesn't keep with the RX tradition of being a 'pure bred sportscar', and instead opts for silly things like luxury interiors and whatever, I'll be disapointed. Also, I hear that flip-up lights are illegal on cars made after 2002 due to new legislation in the US, so if that's true, it'll take a piece out of the feeling it's a true RX-7.

Where did this happen? You guessed it, Columbus. Where kids shoot others kids and teachers at school, where everyone has a riffle at home, and gunshot wounds are the number 1 cause of death.
Anyhoo, hopefully the new RX-7 will be kept a 2-seater in America. He mentionned a 2+2 in the article...

well keep in mind that the RX-7 in the past could always come loaded with luxury features...power everything, leather, good sound system, so i'd expect them to offer the same...the underlying structure on the RX-7 was always very pure in carrying out the escence of being a sports car, but it was hardly a bare bones racer...

I hope I am wrong, but I just picked up the official `Rx-7 memorial` magazine that mazda helped write, if they had a an official memorial, I think the rx-7 at least the name is now officially gone...Max

Dont count on the supra.. Today I took part in ugo no takenoko, the guy I went with happens to be one Toyotas top R&D men in exterior styling...
Forgot to add that the New skyline is just the infinti 2 door whatever coupe we have in North America.. Its not very popular in Japan, when it came out, it pushed older skyline prices upward..Max

pop ups
about the pop ups... we cannot really say that the pop ups will loose the true feel of the rx-7, they were kinda a dumb idea in the begining anyways, made drag worse by almost .1 when up... plus in Japan the popups were phased out of the Rx-7 linup for a flushmount, which is way more whicked with the HID's than the popups were... just my 2 cents

If they DO bring back the RX-7, I guarantee it will be priced in the stratosphere. Every generation of car moved up at least one "snack-bracket." The last really affordable car was the second gen, by the third, it was stupidly expensive compared to alternatives. Bet a fourth-gen car is priced in the $80-90K level and by the time we use our Canadian pesos...well, you get the point.
