I have to admit I don't understand the fundamentals of the peripheral port engine. From the look of things, I'm guessing it's all about cramming more air into the engine. Is that about the size of it? What are the characteristics of a peripheral port engine? What are the trade-offs?

From what I understand (no personal experience here, just prior reading) you lose some driveability and gains tons in the top end. But some say otherwise, I think it is up to the designer/builder to achieve the right intake timing and set up. Looking at Max's recent work this thing may be the next miracle, turbo power out of an n/a, no lag, just WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. And hopefully some of Max's brappity brappity brap

well i have an idea for when i have the means and the engines to **** around with, why not (i have no idea if this will work good or not or it if should even be conceilable, but) have P ports on the engine like shown in your beautiful building, then have the stock houseing (not sure name) the intakes kept too then going down the highway have one set of intakes closed, lets the p ports for ***** and giggles. just so that i understand (and you guys too) you are running basicly a stock setup, then you open the Ports while still haveing the stock ports do their jobs, can someone say instanity, or possible? funny thought i had how cool it would be to kick turbo'd cars ***'s (like my friends 300ZX TT) on the highway with absoluty no boost , oh i hope this is possible cause then i'de build it, (with the help of other RX7 club members in Alberta too :P. tell me i'm crazy or is it possible?

what you are describing is pure madness.
while it is in theory possible, practicality reasons as to why it doesn't work must exist.
Probably, something along the lines of it not making power till like, 15,000RPM or something, and at which point you've turned your doritos into pringles.

If i understand correctly , what hes describing is semi p port.
It maintains the stock intakes plus theres a small hole in each housing . They are controlled via actuator.
This already exists .

well i'm talking full blown P-Ports not just some small little holes ROFL, ya it is probly really cool, but hell go all the way and watch the gas gauge go down with both open, i don't really think it's meant for practicality, mainly kicking caocky guys asses, without the use of boost (like my buddies 300ZX) i would love to kick the crap outta that car with no boost , besides when modifiny a RX 7 genral rule of thumb i found is with most mods, just chuck practicality out the window :P

not only would you have overly massive port area, but i think you would just have too much damn intake timing with a full PP in addition to the stock.
people have done this semi-PP idea. the problem is there are many things to consider with it...
sometimes it does work out quite well. other times people end up getting the worse of both worlds...as much power as just a large street port, with all the driveability issues of a full PP.
Judge Ito's setup is currently running around 300rwhp ALL-MOTOR.
he is aiming for 360+rwhp running on methanol.
anyways let's not hijack Max's thread since i am very interested in seeing what is going with this project

so not true, i think anyone who actually has one could tell you different. most last 50k, which to me, seems like a long time when you actually consider what you get and how often you would use it
