MPI Hood Claim for FD

I have a question and I'm hoping someone has the answer. I live in the Brandon, Manitoba area. This past spring/early summer my hood was damaged from sever wind. I was on the side of the road lifting my hood when a powerful gust ripped it from my hands and bent the hood back resulting in damage that requires the hood to be replaced. Insurance is covering the damage and they said I could use an aftermarket hood, so I want to use the Shine FD3S Rx7 Spec-GT (FEED Style) Hood. I want it painted to match the car so I'll be going with the fiber glass one. The problem I'm having is the repair shop doesn't want to order this hood on my behalf for fear of getting ripped off. My question is, does anyone know of a supplier in Canada that would provide this hood or does it need to be ordered from the U.S.

I think you have to buy from Shine as they don't have distribution centers or dealers that I am aware of. So I think you have to buy from US and have it shipped across border.

why is the repair shop refusing to order it? doesn't matter whether they get ripped off or not since they will bill it to the insurance company anyway. nothing is coming out of yours or their pocket.

and well frankly, i don't see how they could get "ripped off". the price is clearly stated on ShineAuto's website - its not like they are just quoting random prices to different people.

Two problems:

1)Aftermarket to an insurer means Economy replacement, not a performance part. The shop is likely worried that the bill for your performance hood won't be covered by insurance (or that you'll be responsible for a portion of betterment on the part)

2)Duty. Good luck getting an insurance company to pay duty and brokerage fess on a part, not gonna happen. I went through that game several times. Even my broker (Russel Farrow) can *never* tell me exactly what duty and brokerage will be on an item. Brokerage they are sometimes close on, but never has the duty fee estiamtes been accurate. The same applies to the shipping, although that will be easy to get a quote on thats accurate, an isurance company isn't going to pay you to ship a performance hood up from California when there are used replacements (which is what your car had) right near you, in your province. And those are things I wouldn't want to get stuck with as a shop.

If you want that hood put on, order it yourself and keep the reciept. The shop can pay you back for the part if you have the bill, just make sure that the approved estimate will cover the added cost of that hood.

Usually, any FD I've needed a replacement hood on, the standard insurance replacement practice is an LKQ (used) part. Since there are no aftermarket (economy) replacements made for that car, and the dealer price is ludicrous, and the vehicle is old (in the eyes of the insurer) they'll usually only allow 2-300 dollars for a used hood, but you may have gotten lucky.

Joe, stop being so rational and using facts and all that stuff. It just really confuses the issue requiring receipts and returning the car to the condition it was in before the damage and not letting people work side deals in getting their cars repaired.

Everybody "KNOWS" that the insurance companies are all out to screw their customers so that they can pay outrageous returns on investors money. I say that we all have to get together, stop paying insurance and "STICK IT TO DA MANNNNNNNN".

Oh wait a second, in a lot of circles I would be considered "Da Mannnnn".

Nevermind.........

My claim for the hood is based on a new OEM hood. According to the insurance company the hood alone is around $1100 plus paint and labor, etc. In the end its quoted at around $2000. Now the shine fiber glass hood on the site is $500 plus $200ish for shipping. I have no clue about the brokerage fee's but at $700 its looking good for the insurance company already. Shine said they ship via fed ex so i'll see what fed ex has for brokerage charges.
