ON Mosport ALMS

Thanks to Heather and Chuck, and the rest of the Mazda Canada crew for their hospitality!
Had a great time meeting some other Mazda owners-and another Rx7 convertible owner also.
I have attached a photo of the Dyson Mazda that I took from the inside of turn 8-the location of the Mazda Corral.

^ The video goes on a bit long. That drive channel does the Shakedown vids which are great. I met Leo Parente this weekend and had a funny chat with him another photographer about what he thinks of rallycross lol

Yes, that video was less focused than the normal "trackside" video's they normally produce.

They have a great channel, with lots of amazing content. Was kinda upset when I found out they were there last weekend and I missed them (had to work).

Ya, he doesn't seem to enjoy rallycross lol. I guess that's what happens when you are involved with traditional racing for so long. Everything else begins to feel foreign.

Here's a little taste of my photos from CTMP if anyone is interested... lots of the Dyson car. I hate seeing them lose all the time. The HPD is just so much faster in the races. I wonder if the Dunlops on the Dyson will improve enough to let them win some races!

The Dyson car won the Championship last year and they have been ruled to 2nd place this year lol. I know Rob Dyson personally (I take him to and from the airport each year) and also the team manager Mike White. I asked the question of why the car is struggling this year and he calmly answered "5 mm". The rules have raised the car by 5mm and narrowed the rear wing which at the speed those cars are running are massive changes. At Mosport the actually ran the fastest race lap and last weekend they got back to within .5sec of the Muscle Milk car. They will catch up once again probably to be ruled back to 2nd again lol.

I'd hate to ask it, but wasn't last year's championship more of a result of reliability between the Dyson car and the Aston? They always seem to be as quick or quicker in practice and there's no doubt they can outpace for a few laps (such as qualifying) but in the actual race when the Aston is actually working properly, it wins.
Think of Baltimore when the Aston's wiring melted and they had to rewire the entire car in one night. The next day it still wasn't running right and they missed numerous laps and ran half-speed for half the race. Then there was Mid-Ohio (I think?) when the fuel hose coupling got jammed and it took them over 10 laps to get the hose out.
Now Pickett's got a reliable car with the HPD and they're winning consistently, regardless of the changes made to the Lola's... it's really unfortunate to see.
On that note though, I'm REALLY excited to see how the Skyactiv Diesels do in McDreamy's cars next year. I wonder if that engine set up will turn out to be strong enough to compete in P1 with a more experienced race team.

Check out the Mazda/Advanced Engine Research 2.0L turbo MZR-R engine in the Dyson: Dyson Racing: The Cars

Powerful, lightweight, and reliable... impressive. Imagine a slightly detuned version in a future Miata or Mazdaspeed.

That 2.0L MZR-R is what they've been 'advertising' as the racing version of the 2.3L MZR engine that they use in the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 for a couple of years now. Obviously significantly different though, because of the internally driven cams, waterpump, and whatever else, and that it's mounted as part of the chassis.
