It Pays to Bitch!
Last evening I received this email from Mazda Canada in response to JasonRacer thread early this year about lack of support from MCI. Not bad for a couple of emails & a post on Facebook. It's not what Jason was looking for, I assume but it a good starting point!

Dear Mazda Motorsports Enthusiast,
A few months ago, you expressed an interest in getting together with Mazda Canada to discuss how we can support Mazda-powered racers in Canada. We know this is long overdue, but Mazda Canada would like to invite you and a guest to the Grand Prix of Mosport at Mosport International Raceway to see Mazda race in the Star Mazda Championshipand American Le Mans Series, as well as meet with Mazda’s Motorsports Development team.
We will provide you with two free 3-day passes to the Grand Prix of Mosport, and dinner the evening of Saturday, July 23rd with Mazda Canada and Mazda’s Motorsports Development team so we can get the dialogue rolling on how we can help you.
DATES: July 22 - 24, 2011
LOCATION:
Mosport International Raceway
Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada
We hope that you will be able to join us. If you are able to attend please confirm by RSVP’ing at:
Regards,

Yeah, they give away a bunch of tickets that they get for free, whoo hoo.
I am hoping that someday they may put together a program that rewards Canadian Racers the same way that U.S. based racers are rewarded. I am very frustrated that Mazda Canada only seems to focus on selling econo boxes for the most gross and ignores the great performance reputation of Mazda products. Oh yeah, twice a year their ads have checkered flags on them when the Toronto Indy is in town and when the ALMS is at Mosport.
I stood on the periphery watching Al's efforts to drag Mazda Canada into alliance with their U.S. cousins and saw the grief he received from them. I have raced Mazda products every year since 1997 and they have never even cared one bit. When Al was with Mazda, he negotiated a couple of smaller deals that helped a ton, but it was very painful to watch.
The Can-Saf guys have run hard with Mazda products, Al has run hard with Mazda products and the guys from Ottawa have run hard with Mazda product. There are also a few guys running Miata's. Any Mazda program would help a number of teams just in Ontario. There are other teams in Quebec, Alberta and BC that could use some assistance, but the only assistance comes from the dealer level and not from corporate.
I think it is interesting that just after Al goes to Toyota, he is able to put together a grassroots Scion program. Use this opportunity to ask why they see no value in supporting all the Canadian racers who run Mazda product. If I could get the same program that Scion, Honda, BMW or even one of the back door Hyundai or GM programs that exist, I would be delighted and I have asked the same questions to the VP level people at Mazda Canada. Remember I used to be a Suzuki Canada factory team driver back in the 90's, so I know how it all works.

Hopefully Mazda will start to address these issues. If people don't show up in numbers and voice their opinions, it's like pissing in the wind. So I hope it more than just a few of us make a appearance or nothing will ever happen. So reply to their email and lets have a good showing.
The main issue is that my time is sooo tight that if I am going to be at the event, I will be racing in the CTCC Race in my Cougar. At least I have some support for that car.

My intention from the beginning was that a group of collective voices is louder than any one or two individuals. Change can only be brought about with careful organization, repeated harassment and luck. If anyone chooses to attend then great, if you are at the meeting after the dinner and have something to contribute about Mazda Canada's support of their motorsports competitors in Canada then by all means speak up. I'm preparing a number of suggestions. Thank you to everyone who chimed in and helped me make this happen.

On Saturday night we'll be having one of the top DJ's in Canada spinning at our campsite, bringing a little bit of Sebring to Mosport. We have a FB page for it here:
