Love the New Toy - but I will miss the 7

Well I have officially sold the 10AE and they young lady who is getting the car as a birthday present will hopefully appreciate it. Considering the fact that she is a car nut and points leader in her go cart racing series and the fact that the car will continue to be put away every winter I am confident that the 7 ended up in good hands.

So I searched for a nice 3rd gen with no luck and something else got my attention. It's not rotary powered but loves to rev high.

This is car number 20 something for me and I am sure that I will have an RX something again in the future. The RX-7 RX-8 community is great and I recieved a lot of support and enthusiasm from individuals on this forum and in the RX club of Ontario. You guys and Gals have a good thing going here and hopefully there is equal support with the S2000 owners.

See you on the road and maybee even the track.

Well I wasn't going to say anything but since Alak started the ball rolling.... I can't believe you'd do that!!! lol... My boss has an S-2000 and my other boss owned the '85 GSL I bought. Drove them both (and the boss's '90 300ZX previous to that S2K) and I have to say that I was unimpressed with the S2K. I was probably one of the biggest Honda fans shortly before the S2Ks intro (I was leaning to other brands already previous to it's release) and I actually helped my boss make up his mind about getting this car but I don't know... To shorten things up a bit my boss is now starting to look at trading the S2K in now. He can only fit one set of clubs in the trunk and then his wife is sitting in the passenger seat WITH her clubs. He's starting to look at the 350Z now... That's a killer car for the money. Anyways check into a couple gearbox recalls on that car because the boss's friend is the head mechanic at Halton Honda and he did a couple on the boss's gearbox. It's only for certain model years though.

I hate the dash with the 'graphic tach'. Push start was a gimmick. Handling is up there but my Miata still hugs better around corners. Ahh the joys of lighter weight.

Powerplant is duel personality. Below 4k, mommys car. Above, loud, and overworked stressed sounding.

Power Top? They coulda saved a few hundred pounds by reaching over your shoulder.

Trunk space? Oh please, I can fit 2 golf bags AND luggage in my Miata. Be lucky to fit a single golf bag in the S2000.

Im exaggerating a little. Its a good car, I just couldn't justify the extra $20,000 over my Miata ($35,000 versus $55,000). At all angles I looked at it, there was no justification other than you'd get noticed a little more since S2000's arnt around much.

hmmm, there doesn't seem to be another Honda in the North American lineup i could even really care about when it comes to performance cars...i mean, the next fastest thing they have to the S2K is their minivan (i'm not even joking).

i like the S2K because it is more of a purist car than anything...you guys are right about not being able to carry anything in them. it also is slow until you really push it. but that is what other more civilized cars are for.

So, how many golf bags can you guys fit in your FD's ?? ehhh, I think I can fit a few sleeves of golf ***** and a water jug, and that's about it. Guess I'll have to rent the clubs when I get there.

When i start hearing people buying 2 seater convertible hondas and complaining about not being able to put 2 sets of golf bags in the trunk , it really pisses me off. Your not buying a Benz or a Lexus or Infinity for the room and luxoury, your buying a nice little convertible that has some great things going for it, suspension, close gears and power to weight ratio. Reminds me of what i read in the paper a couple of weeks ago. It was a lady who was given a Ferrari Enzo for the day to test drive and she ended up syaing its a horrible car because there was no where to fit her groceries and she had a hard time finding a spot in walmart cause the car was so wide. I mean holy **** did i start swearing when i saw this. Who the hell buys a Ferrari Enzo and plans on using it to be a dialy driver to take to the grocery store and to go to walmart. You have to know what your looking for when your buying a car. Its like someone buying a FD and complaining about the fuel economy and the reliability of it and the small trunk space, we all know thats not the reason you buy a FD.

My Miata is my daily driver. But I mean, who spends $30,000 - $50,000 on a car, then goes and buys another one to go get groceries? Family men have that advantage, but from an un-married mans perspective. Theres certain things a car should be able to do in capacity. I use golf bags as an example because thats what reveiwist's use as an example of capacity. S2000 and Miata, and now the new Soltace are perfectly capable as daily drivers. Truth be told that most dont care about cargo space and gross weights. But after the nostolgia wears off after about 3 months, it starts to sink in what you can and can't do with the car. S2000 is a tad small. Soltace is an f-ing joke. Some genius at pontiac decided the top folds down into where the trunk should be. I thought the rear window was a mailbox slot, you should see the cargo space. Not even room for a weekend getaway.

Granted that the Enzo is obviously not a daily driver, but if you can afford an Enzo, Im sure you have a fleet of Hummer H2's lining the driveway.

Well, there is always the Honda, I mean Acura NSX. I think that its a bit faster than an Accord or Odyssey with a v6... not sure about how many golf bags it'll hold, but it does make some power below 7000
Of course, nice handling, some semblance of storage space, and rotary power can be had in an RX-8. And for about 10g less than an s2k - lotsa money to throw at mods... s2k are pretty sweet tho' to run hard - need a track day or auto-x really.

C'mon I never bailed on anyone - I am just temporarily without a rotary powered sports car - I still hope to visit the go cart track with you guys and maybee even check out a few naked women

Neo

The Boss has not yet taken a huge liking to the S2000 - mybee because I have insisted on driving around with the top down in late October - She also says that the RX-7 was eisier to drive after stalling the S2000 about 10 times when I let her try to drive it

Modded 85/Alak

Yes the trunk is small, but I have a company car - and when I go on a golf outing I never end up driving there since I usually like my golf with beer

I have actually owned 2 Miata's (90 and 99) - a joy to drive and they are in some ways a bit more user friendly than the S2000 but the Miata is not really in the same league as the S2000 and can not match the driving experience (acceleration, cornering, breaking, seats and looks) and my friends aren't going to tell me that I'm driving a girls car (I know a true car enthusiest wouldnt say this but about 1/2 of my friends would wrather watch the hockey game than an F1 race)

Your Miata can outcorner an S2000 - get real

Coldfire

I think that the next fastest thing to an S2000 in the Honda lineup would be a Civic Sir or an Accord V6 6speed not a Minivan

Hey 10Year7,

Good to hear you'll be sticking around... and we'll definately hook up for some poker.... if not the naked women watching...

The S2000 will definately outperform the Miata... but they're in different leagues... so that's no surprise...

It's all down to personal tastes and what you feel like at the moment...

I can't believe you drove around with the top down in this cold weather!! And with the Boss in the car!
Any chick that can drive stick is cool in my books...

yup, ACURA NSX in north america, not Honda
that is a cool car though, lots of performance...although quite pricey for what you get. and they have stopped making them now

well i was thinking just purely from a straight line perspective, and i was just half-serious.

but i looked at Car and Driver data, and also HP and curb weight ratings on the Honda website, and the Civic SIR hatch only manages to MATCH the Odyssey. the Accord V6 6-spd you mentioned is the only car in Honda's lineup that is faster than their minivan, besides the S2k, lol.

heh, i was being "technical" calling it an Acura. of course i know it is a Honda.
and actually there are more than a few differences between the Jap and American versions, but pretty much the same...
