ON Looking for a good motor!

Looking for a reputable shop or business to buy a good motor from, preferably some where in Toronto, Ontario. If anybody knows of a a good place please let me know, i dont want to deal with those shitty japanese chop shops, that just sell motors in any condition.

You could try posting in your regional area. Also there are motors for sale in the for sale section every now and then.

^ +1 on asking in regional section if your set on local. If not, theres several people on here that sell quality engines, CrispyRX7 is one.

In my opinion the good proven shops in the Toronto area are: Mark at Mazmark Auto --takes a long time but good engine builder, Jim at Rotary Dynamics and Dave at Mazdees who is one of the originals from wayyyyyy back.

The only way you're really going to find a good engine without dealing with an importer (or chop-shop?) is buying from someone with a good rep. on the forum. In Canada I don't know of anyone that sells them as a business, but members like Japan2LA do it in the states with a good reputation.
Another way to go about getting a new engine is to buy from an importer, take it to someone like JDK (Jim from Rotary Dynamics) and see what is usable inside, then put it back together properly. I'd recommend this route since it's the only way you guarantee the quality of the internals.

What series are you looking for anyways? More info = more answers

Hey, that's what I was gonna say...

I believe there are very few engines sitting on the shelf, freshly rebuilt, ready to drop in.

More likely, you buy a used engine with some unknown condition, as is. Then take it to a reputable engine Re-builder. They will tear it done, assess the parts, and quote what needs to be replaced.

This also gives you the opportunity to have the ports left alone (stock) or custom ported.

If you don't want to risk buying an engine from an importer (good choice), your only other real option is to have the engine rebuilt. It is extremely rare for a good engine to be lying around for you to drop in. Engines that have been sitting around for a while will often be corroded internally which leads to possible premature water jacket failure. Even brand new OEM motors from Mazda that have been purchased and then opened up for modifications have appeared with corrosion (mazda runs them to test for leaks I believe).

FYI
RD isn't technically together anymore but Jim (JDK) is still rebuilding on his own.
I can't speak for Darryl since I don't know him.
