I was born there and still have family and old friends in the area. It's ok to visit once in a while but it's one of the best places in the world to move away from--- no economy, boring as hell, too many rednecks and it's the fire-and-brimstone Penecostal capital of Canada and perhaps the entire world.

That would definitely trump my cross-Canada trip--- unless the car got there by boat...

Hello Canadian Forum!

In my 87 FC Turbo II, I made literally dozens of trips between Virginia and Massachusetts (around 450 miles each way). I used to make a trip about every three weeks. The car never let me down once.

In my 93 FD, the longest trip I've ever done was from Maryland to Pennsylvania.... about 200 miles each way I guess. I'm sure it would drive wherever I asked it to go, but I don't like taking long trips in the car because...

1 - I might have to park it somewhere "bad"
2 - It might get a rock chip
3 - It might get rained on
4 - It has even less cargo room than my FC did

5 - My Honda S2000 gets twice the mileage and I don't care what happens to it!

One good thing about rotaries is once they are running they tend to stay running, ie: complete engine failure due to broken components is rare. (unlike boingers---- lose your timing belt, a con rod or melt a piston and you walk). So these cars are definitely capable of longer trips than those you've mentioned.

And you'd be suprised what you can cram into a 7, at least a first gen. I've shoe-horned an entire DJ system into mine.

The summer of 2005 i went on a raod trip to the US. i left the house with 200 000km on the nose. and on the stock motor. i left with tires at 90% and came back with bald tires. the trip was near 14000kms. it took 6 weeks.

only problem was the bleeder screw on the rad broke in Taos New Mexico when i was checking all the fluids. i managed to get a hose clamp to work. i drove like this for 8 days before i got a new one in Denver.

two incidents with the cops. one was we were coming down from the mountains in New Mexico onto a long flat section of road and the cops pulled myself and my friend over but let us off with a warning b/c he never saw anyone from Calgary before. and the other one was near Alpine Arizone on highway 191 south of Alpine. there was a tanker that rolled over the night before and we got onto the road right before they shut it down. anyways we stoped for lunch at a look out nad a cop drove up and asked us where we came from since the road is shut down althe way to Granville. anyways we had the entire road to our selves and just drove like mad down it. i recorded the entire thing lol.

if you have microsoft streets and trips you can see where i went.

Here is a pic i took of the map.

Farthest I went is when I bought the car. Car came from Victoria, Dude picked me up at the airport, and I continued on (after a stop at the bank) and drove home to Red Deer. Think it is about 1200-1300 km to my door. Got home in 11 hours through the mountains.... what a fun trip

long road trips

Back in the late 70's I drove my RX3 between Edmonton and London Ont. 5 times in less than 36 hrs. On one of the trips through Michigan I destroyed the bearing in the diff and did a quick 4 hr. diff change in a junk yard parking lot(still made the 36 hr. time line).

On my last road trip from Ontario I pulled a trailer with 2 hydroplanes and all my worldly possesions to Vancouver Island with my twin dizzy RX3. Strong motors!

In 84 I built an 1 RX3's from 3 non-runners. The day after I started it, I drove from Victoria to Vallyview Alberta and back for a long week end(full car 2 in the front 2 in the back). Later that year went to Mexican boarder(no insurance to cross) for 2 weeks in the sun.

They were all long trips
