my RX8 wheels got stolen from my storage locker and ended up on craigslist and kijji the next day.theives are not dumb for posting the crap they steal on these free classified ad web sites as they know the cops have no powers to seize the goods based on your word that its yours.
the cops told me if you have proof of a serial number and the item is marked with it then they could do something but other than that walk away.

I use kijiji regularly and am not a thieve or con artist. It can be a great place to find some items. I got a set of rims and tyres for my truck for $100 from some guy that just got aftermarket wheels for is. It was a wicked deal, and helped me out greatly. You just need to make sure that your buying a legitimate product. It sucks that thieves use it, but it is a way to help track them down without going through the police.

I just bought a brand new engine host with receipt that was 369, before taxes, for 200 flat.
It's a great place to shop and sell. it is however also a marketing paradise for thieves.
You can depend on the law (cops) to get back your you possessions, or if you know 100% it's yours, and lack the proof needed to use the law, get it back on your own.

A friend of mine in Vancouver had his race trailer broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen. He had serial numbers for some of the stuff, but other things just don't have seriel numbers or are custom made one-offs that only fit one car.
All of the stuff was put up for sale on Kijiji Lower Mainlands site. He had a buddy go out and look at the stuff and take pictures of it. They took all the information to the cops ( and a bunch of Vancouver Auto Crime cops are friends of his) and they said that they didn't have the time to followup on it and that he should just claim everything on insurance. I believe that it was over $10,000 in stuff.
Soooo the moral of the story is that even when you spoon feed the police with the case, even when they are friends of yours and want you to do favours for them, at the end of the day if the rip off guys get your stuff, its gone. Take out lots of insurance and keep receipts. The Police aren't going to help on what they consider petty crime. They need to spend their time sitting behind bushes to nail you for going 17 kmh over.
Disgusting........

Don't forget the tire kickers. Guy called me 5 times last night wanting to buy my vw and he said he would specifically be there at 10 with cash in hand and made me promise not to sell. I call at 1030 and he says oh I'm sleeping I'll be there in an hour. And still hasnt shown up. What a inconsiderate douche.

I advertised a car on Kijiji and recieved a lot of scam interest... IE Buyers offering payment sight unseen via paypal and offering to organize the pickup... That said also just purchase an RX-3 via kijiji (yet to be delivered) will post an update after it arrives... fingers crossed.

I've never received a scam email from Kijiji.
I've had a few offers for things site unseen but never payment site unseen. Nobody offered to pay via Paypal either. I've only dealt with scammers with Autotrader.

Surprisingly I've never had problems with Kijiji people but Autotrader buyers have been the worst for me.
My favourite email was this one. I tried to scam the scammer... didn't receive a response afterwards. Since I knew his email at this point, I also responded to about 50 for sale ads on Kijiji for women's underwear with the 'send me a copy of the email' checked off. Should have annoyed him at least a little.

This how I respond to these scammers:
Thanks for the reply, however I am away for a while and my brother would look after everything for me. Do not worry as he is a Police Officer with the Fraud Department here in Ontario.
I have passed on all your information to him and he would be contacting you shortly.
Regards,
R
