CS13B just had a newly rebuilt up for sale, for way less than what you intend on paying.
I'd be looking into that!

+1 - I don't think this is an out of sight price. I think I just about hit that 5 years ago by the time i had my rebuild done, removal, reinstall, re-hardening of the irons after resurfacing. There were some other issues to resolve, which needed to be solved with a PowerFC and tuning which i include in that amount too.

I'd say that yes you can just find another car/roller, but if you are planning on keeping the car long-term, being sure the engine is a 'known quantity' in terms of life expectancy and reliability is worth the money.

Came with all the gaskets too, my rotors and housings were in good shape so I didn't need to replace them.

I'm sure Mazdees does great work, but I only trust JDK with my engines now. Here's my engine when I picked it up from JDK, I think I bought a steel engine mount from him too.

Yep thats how mine looked................Jim is my builder he does great work, pm him JDK on the forum.

Also to" orginal poster" compare apples to apples price the cost of a rebuild of short block, then engine removal and install seperately, a lot can go wrong when installing and reinstalling also for rebuilding you do not know how the internals are alot of unknowns for a specific quote.

Eliminate some of the variables, get a clear and concise quote.

When i think about it for engnie removal, long block breakdown, shortblock rebuild, long block reassembly and long block reinstall, start up and making sure everything is just right $4500 sounds like a good price.

Yes, I was at one point... delaying the plans though so it won't be coming out for a while.
