ON (Job) Anyone interested in doing a t2 swap into an FB?

Just curious if anyone here had ever done or can do a t2 swap into a first gen? I'm looking to pay someone to do the work for me. It's an '81 GSL so it'll need the GSL-SE parts swapped in but I thought i'd throw this out there in case someone was down to make some money? PM me if you're interested!

Do it yourself or take it to a shop.

The inbetween is too much of a grey area that will definitely result in miscommunication and issues.

as a proud, or is it semi retarded (so hard to tell the difference), owner of a TIIFB i can only recommend you do it yourself. i could fill pages with the number of unexpected things that came up an had to be dealt with. and i wasnt even starting from scratch, i had a fb with a tii motor to swap out of an into my fb shell.

-start with motor mount
-fuel system (everything from the pump to the hardlines and its still incomplete need surgetank an a proper pressure regulator among other things still)
-exhaust
-ecu
-plumbing
-broken,stripped,missing bolts
-mounting coils
-intercooler solution as keeping it in the stock location is less then recommended
-oil cooler if you havent got a front mount already (and all front mounts arent the same as far as mounting and mines still only a thin piece of rubber from my front sway bar
-GSL SE oil pan and front cover
-fusebox
-unexpectd things like wiring the cas properly so as to avoid interference
-little things like fuel line, clamps wire etc

i could seriously fill pages with this. is it a pain in the ***, oh hell yes! is it worth it, depends, i think so.

there is so much stuff that can an likely will go wrong in the process of the swap that

A) unless you have everything needed right there at the time an ready to go i cant imagine anyone else is going to invest the time to do it for you unless you are paying rediculously well, or they are incredibly adept and patient

B) if you dont do it yourself who are you going to pay to fix it when you have problems? i imagine its pretty hard to find a shop that is familiar enough with an RX7 to work on a stock FB, let alone a TII swap, especially a TII swap you cant properly explain or understand

C) the things you learn along the way doing it yourself is worth twice what you would pay someone else to do it for you. once i was finished there wasnt much that could go wrong that i couldnt figure out and fix. just the simple comfort that comes with the experience makes it so much easier to pop the hood an get to muckin about

D) i find theres a special feeling that comes with destroying someones not yet payed for M3 with my home built slightly ghetto but all mine an all payed for car

E) over the course of doing it yourself you will know damn near every inch of your car intimately, ive probably turned nearly every nut an bolt on mine, ive sanded an painted every inch at least twice, its more of an entity to me then just a car

after my experience i cant imagine letting anyone else turn a wrench on my car. every compliment i receive is a compliment to me and my efforts, not to what someone else did for me. thats just pride tho an we know what Marcellus Wallace has to say about pride. either way, unless its something you have already done and would simply like to let someone else deal with it, i would almost insist you do it yourself or itll keep biting you in the *** in the end.

do it yourself, read pages an pages worth of forum posts, create a few page long question posts, in the end come away much further ahead

agreed. a custom project like that will have problems and adjustments that need to be made even after completion. so your way better off knowing how everything was fabricated, routed and installed. there are guys here they can help you along the way.
