I can add a little input on the coating other that what i have already said.
I built a motor for a guy with the last set that i got from jhb and one thing that was noticed
was that porting after the coating is put on is a bad idea, you have to be very careful
the coating will chip off during grinding, even using a stone. flap wheels are about the
safest way to port after coated.
shortly after this engine was built (with ceramic apex seals) it was exposed to detonation
and a apex seal failed doing massive damage to everything on that side.
I was expecting to see the coating coming off due to the impact damage
and it looks quite good, not usable but better than i expected with no pealing at all!

my 2 cents

Wow man....I seriously cant believe you cant accept the fact that there happens to be a product out there that is better than Mazda's factory chrome surface.

Is there any possible way you can hold your water and wait for me to beat the living hell out of my motor....then I'll tear it down and personally bring you the housings and show you.

BAYYYM

doridori-rx7 - I told you he's going o be eventually posting hs results.........you just need to wait until he gets them...........we're all interested to see how well or not well these coatings hold up, but we're not all super rich and therfore can't simply afford to run a motor till it pops just so you can have your answer in a couple days.

Be paitient and keep an eye on this thread for the answers your after.

Okay guys, there are points to be had on both sides.

doridori: I, too, have trouble investing in something without having any sort of engineering specs released. At least in the case of brent clement's nitriding of the side housings I know how deep it is, and what the hardness is. It may not actually mean much to me, but if I wanted to go look up information on those numbers I'd know what I was dealing with.

I can understand JHB wanting to withhold information on what the coating is made out of, how they apply it, and how they developed it. Nonetheless, some information should be offered about the tests they've done relating to its toughness and longevity. I don't expect them to divulge their trade secrets about the coating, but gereric information that you could gather about any surface coating should be provided. Heck, if I knew how to test for these kinds of things, I could give you the toughness factor of the stock rotors' surface.

All the same, doridori, this thread is not the place to bitch about it and start a fight. We know where you stand, fine. Now that we understand where you're coming from, let those who want to try the product try it. It's their money and their engines, and many of them are willing to prematurely tear into their finished engines to give us an idea of what this stuff can or can't do.

Personally I wouldn't mind if you went bugging JHB until you got some specs, but don't start fights over it here. There's a way to say it without pissing people off.

And I'm sorry, but dufourmike, your post is about as useful as an appendix. While it's nice sometimes to have opinions posted, "cermet is cermet" doesn't tell me anything. You can't define something by itself. It's posts like that which aggrivate the situation when one person is looking for facts and all they get is "thsi thing is teh r0xors!!!1"
